shouldnt i have more power??

I recently got my toyota tuned on a dyno, but im a bit confused with the results.

Car info:
ae92
4age red top
2 1/4" exhuast 3" muffler
pod filter
possibly aftermarket cams

Before tune = 76KW 101.9HP
After tune = 79.7kw 106.9HP

So i got some gain with new plugs, adjuted timing, cleaned dizzy cap and adjusted throttle position sensor and that seems normal.

my problem is that i thought a red top put out 100KW standard and mine could only get to 79.7KW. Ive thought there may be a couple of reasons why:

1/ Dyno is wrong??

2/ Engine is not redtop - colour of engine lettering is as follows:TWIN CAM 16VALCE (in red); TOYOTA 1600 (in black)

3/ Engine was getting massive heatsoak from position of pod filter which has now been shifted but was directly behind battery (ie about 40cm from throttle body near where panel filter airbox was)??

4/ There is simething seriously wrong with engine (maybe compression???). has nearly done 200ks.

anyone have any thoughts as to other reasons why i aint got the sort of power that should be expected from the engine??

Combination of Toyota's exagerated power figures and wear and tear.

Engines do not stay the same power figures over time

100kw is at the engine, your dyno will read power at the wheels.

80kw @ wheels is a good result from a near stock 15 year old Toyota engine rated 100kW at the engine like the others have said but dyno's vary so much, at the end of the day it's only a number and what it feels like on the road should be your main priority, ie. does it feel responsive? any flat spots? revs cleanly through to redline etc

it is my understanding after reading many other threads that a 1991 AE92 corolla cannot be the TVIS 4age. '89 was the last year TVIS was made. All red tops after that were the non-TVIS redtop smallport hence factory rating 100kw.

im guessing that a dyno reading ''at the wheels'' is always less than the reading at the engine then.

its not that responsive below 3500rpms but thats consistent with it being a smallport 4age. Between 4000 and 6000 its at its best then seems to taper off after that. find its best to change just over 6000.

This is because you lose power through the drivetrain. 4wd vehicles tend to lose the most in this situation

Your right a dyno reading at the wheels is less.

Not all smallports are unresponsive below 3500. Ive found them to be better down low than big ports and my old redtop would happily rev to 7 with no noticible power drop off, more if ya let it...

Red and black is a small port.

Yep you got the 100kw motor and I would be really happy with that result.
Thats really good for such an old motor.

Looks like you have a smallport low-comp.

no such thing as small port low comp ...
if your intake manifold says TVIS then you have an 88kw motor..
either way 79kw is consistant with an 88kw motor on the dyno with minimal mods

The year that your car was registered is not nessarily the year it was made.

a mate of mine had a silver-top 20v that only put out 80kw at the wheels... so yeah

i got my ae82 dynoed the other day on a hub dyno and it came out at 97hp sae with my max power being at 7 grand.

its got standard internals with a pod filter and an exaust.
