Gearbox Problem

Postby SL0 R0LLA » Wed Apr 27, 2005 4:32 pm

The car doesnt move when i put it into any gear and acts like it is in neutral in every gear, still revs but doesnt move. could someone tell me what the problem is and how much it is going to cost to fix it? this just happened last night without making any noise to indicate that the gearbox broke. my car is an 87' FXGT. any help appreciated

Sounds like your clutch could be buggered. Has it been a slow coming process or did it just happen?

Any unusual crunching when you put it in gear?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Check your clutch fluid levels. My brothers car does exactly that when the clutch fluid runs out. (It leaks).

Either way, it sounds clutch related.

I had the same thing in teh supra but it was because i snapped my clutch line whilst driving and then clutch all of a sudden didn't work anymore :/

Also check the slave cylinder to see wether it might not be seized or something...this has happned to me aswell.

Otherwise your clutch might be utterly buggered. Happened numerious times with me before aswell...

Someone said something could be wrong with the selection thing, if this is the problem would it be easy to fix? dont know if it is the clutch because i should be able to still put it into gear and drive kind of?

clutch help maybe

Postby roadkill » Wed Apr 27, 2005 9:03 pm

there should be a fluid holder by the brake fluid thats the clutch fluid check that and if its low then top it upthat could be it, thats only if it has a hydrolic clutch. if not its cable adjust that but im preety sure they are hydrolic...if thats it then youve got a problem and you need to cange your clutch!
