normally the cat temp sensor just activates the warning light on the dashboard. Unplugging it will turn the light on, I think if you join them together it will turn off

Ive found the opposite to occur on afew cars ive done also, so it may depend on the sendor or how its wired up.

just cut the sensor mount off the cat and weld it into the replacement pipe. then bolt the sensor. and ex temp warning can be useful in a highly modified car. if you just want the light to got out then u can unplug it. if that doesn't put the light out you need to earth the wire (single wire) or solder the wires together (2 wire).
meh.....

when i changed the exhaust on my ma70, i just unplugged the sensor, and left it at that. no warning lights on the dash, and car did not drop into limp mode or anything. to get to the plug, pull the drivers seat out and pull back the carpet, it's there next to the drive tunnel.
