Wheel Shake

Postby zandrakweb » Tue May 31, 2005 10:46 pm

A very scary thing happened to my car last night that has made it not drivable, and it decided to happen when going 100 on the motorway, My steering wheel started to shake once i got to 100kph, at first i thought it was just the wheel balancing/alignment/new tread, etc. but then as i slowed down, the shake seemed to slow down aswell, but at the same strength. It got worse and worse in a matter of minutes untill the whole car was violently shaking, this was obviously after pulling off the motorway twice and checking my studs were tight.
I managed to make it to a gas staition, i jacked up the car took the wheel off and i found that my hub was actually loose, it could be wobbled a bit. What causes this? there just constantly seems to be things going wrong with this car, i cant keep up with it :(. could be worth dismantling for parts.

I'm guessing the bearings have callopsed, happened in my car, cost a pretty penny to find a new hub.

could be the hub nut just came loose, big problem on WRXs

try tightening it, and then going straight to a mech, if you cant tighten it, call a mobile mechanic

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Strange.... check the cv joint to. it supports the hub from behind. the hub shouldnt just have come loose all the sudden. either the cv shaft bolt is loose or the bearing must have collapsed. was there any strange noises coming from that wheel weeks before?
