Urethane - where to get it?

Postby MrOizo » Thu Jun 02, 2005 8:23 pm

I was wondering where one can get blocks of urtthane and have it machined into desired shapes...

is this expensive to do also?

what i wanna do is in the link and pics below.

The're engine mounts and these are made of something caled Delrin.

I was thinking that with the right dimensions i could have some made up and not have to fork out millions and wait years for them to arrive..

What you think is another idea to do... other than going stock of course :)

If your interested in urethane, suss out the sizes you will need and Ill get some prices for ya.

That looks more like a type of nylon bush,
Here in Christchurch I get stuff like that from a firm called engineering plastics they have all types of plastic nylon etc etc for machining purposes so look in your yellow pages for something similar or give them a ring.

I have seen a website where guy fill the original engine mounts with liquid urethane to make them stronger and stiff.

I know the site, well one where they do that. Was a AW11's 20v mounts.
Just had a look and cant find the freaking thing! thought it was this site: http://www.padandwheels.com/mr2 but it aint... well might be just cant find it.

Wicked found it!

my mounts dont work like these. instead of these where the mount's bolt passes through the mount tangential, mine are basically a long bolt through the mount itself. i cant really explain but trying to find pics to explain.

Not like these:

But rather like these:

I got mine done by Thorndon Rubber down here in Welly. You'd need to talk to the boss about it.
I also used new mounts and got the gaps filled, thus they didnt have any problems with greese and oil

I second that,
I went for a tour of autolign, they do a lot of custom work with nolathane.
They showed us some engine mounts for a fleet of busses they were making.
Plenty of experience in that place.
