Levin ae101 questions

Post by crazor »

First one relates to superstrut/lowering

Ive been in contact with pedders suspension and they have told me they can supply me lowering springs for my ae101 ss levin. If i was to do this i would want to make sure that my ss and shocks are in good condition.
What are they tell tail signs that the superstrut is on the way out, also what are the signs that the shocks are on there way out ?
Also is ther anyone in auckland you reccomend for doin suspension work.

2nd Wen i got my brakes replaced my alternator belt was also on the way out so that got replaced.
Now everytime i start the car when its cold i get this really horrible slapping sound coming from the right hand side of the engine (if looking into the engine bay, its on the left side) basically behind the right front.
Is this were the alternator belt is located ? , if not wat is here, it sounds like a belt sound. It stops after about 1 minute.
If this is a belt , how would i go about tightening up a belt?

3rd My levin is standard dual exhaust, is there any benefit to having 1 single side exhaust opposed to a dual side.

Regards

1/ AFAIK SS and non SS springs are interchangable, i put non SS Kings in my SS AE101 with no issues at all... If you can afford new shocks, then contact Mr Revhead and get some genuine Toyota Struts, their latest pricing is absurdly cheap, cheaper than lesser aftermarket brands!!!

2/

3/ lose the cat but retain the std system, it really ain't that bad, noise definitely does not =HP with 20v's

1. Lower arms will have some play in them if they need replacing. They dont seem to gradually go either, one minute theyll be ok then next they wont and youll need to replace them.

Should be able to tell how stuffed your shocks are when you take them out. The insert should not colapse to the bottom of the strut without force!

2. Alternator is right down the back of the engine near the firewall on the drivers side on a 20V.

3. Only real benefit is saving weight. Depends what your wanting to do with your exhaust? I dont think youll make it quieter changing to one exhaust, itll prob make it louder actually. Sounds like maybe a previous owner has possibly taken out the cat and middle muffler, you may want to add another muffler (pref) or resonator back to quieten it down

Yeah im thinking a resonantor is the best for the exhaust.
Cheers for the alternator location

The reason why i was asking bout the suspension is becos i have this horrible click sound coming from my right front. My cv there is fine , the brakes are all new and the wheel bearing is new , so im thinking the only thing it could be are if the struts are clicking , does this happen ?

if you still have the center muffler... its a straight through resignator, if you dont have that nor a cat get two resignators put in, if just removing the cat an leaving center one just put one in.
