The wild levin click, been over all basis

Postby crazor » Sun Jun 12, 2005 5:11 pm

I know that there are many topics about the clicking and so that you get with the levins, but ive been through all areas and i keep getting no luck and its rather annoying now.

Symtoms
Clicking coming mostly from the front right wheel area, the clicking is total irregular, its most prevalent wen accelerating and decelerating from the 0-30km braket.
The cv's have been checked and there fine , the wheel bearing is brand new so cant be that, is this a problem that comes when the bushes in the superstrut suspension need to be replaced?

Im sure someone must of had a simalar problem, please help.

Also who in auckland is good to go to, to get suspension checked out , i have been told good things about pedders .

I had a similar sound in my car. I thought a cv was on the way out and after about 2 hours of investigation I found the engine mount loose.

Also check the strur bar where it mounts to the firewall.
Although that's more when cornering.
Our AE111 was clicking and we tracked it down to that. They have to be real tight.

possibly could also be the sway bar bushes, they make a sort of clicking/knocking sound when they need replacing..

Park your car with the hand brake on and out of gear. See if the wheel will move backwards and forwards by turning the wheel. If it moves then its bushes of some kind

Ok im glad you posted this topic cos I have the same symptoms except from the left front wheel. My car has been into the mechs about 2-3 times and they dont know what it is...

One thing I noticed is that if your decelerating the knock is there, but once you push the clutch in it disappears. Does yours do this? Ive noticed that the noise seems to be coming directly from the wheel area too

So you have had the CVs checked, and wheel bearings done.

Heres the list of things which mine is had in the front suspension in the last year or so:

New front shocks, new S/S lower arms, new sway bar links, new sway bar bushes, new LF ball joint (connecting strut to hub). So I can confidently say its none of them.

The only thing I can think of is maybe a wheel stud, or possibly the trailing arm (or whatever its called  ). Seem to be the only things I haven't replaced

Its more of an annoying sound than anything but damn i want it gone!

The cars and auto so no clutch lol

The car has also had the calipers and brake pads replaced on the front , it was doing it before this and still does it after .

It does get worse when i drive my car on a reg basis, i know its not a engine prob.

Im going to get the most through suspension check possible done, they guys who do this know more than most about levins and there ss goodness so im hoping it can be pin pointed.

Postby Fandango » Mon Jun 13, 2005 3:47 pm

Mine has exactly the same problem too. Ive replaced 3 out of 4 cv's and got fed up so I just left it how it is.

I would REALY like to know what it is.

Ok what about when you put it into N then? :P

1598cc wrote:inner cv's ?

Nope not likely be be the inners, like Fandango said he has replaced 3 out of 4 off his CVs on his GTZ. Ive been told that inner CVs hardly ever fail so doubt its that

Might be worth checking the metal locking cap over the hub nut like Revhead suggested.
Warwick, is it a matter of replacing the part to stop the knocking, or adjusting it in some way?
