im sure however little rotarys produce in torque would be enough to get a car off the mark..

anyway, the car in question is a KE35 not an altezza.

do something out of the ordinary man..
how about putting a VTEC in?

what? who? where?

australia and quite a few in nz too !
mostly in the draggin scene .
U cannot deniy that for wot it is and the brillance and fundamentals behind a rotary engine are not somewot interesting , intriguing and dam good for wot is considered a 1300 cc engine .

oh, the old 1300cc thing again... thats how they do so well in that class, a loophole!

they are effectily a 2600cc

now i know all the rotary fans are gunna deny that, but with the way they work, fireing cycles compared to output shaft revolutions they are 2600cc.
now compare them to a 2600cc fourstroke.. and things even up 8)

Id have to agree here, a rotary engine is all or a 1200cc (12a) & 1300cc (13b) they produce a hell of a lot of power for what they are. Very well designed, and light.
The likes of a 13bt (turbo) would pull a altezza along quite nicely. Theres a lot of bmw's & merc's with rotary engine transplants these days... and they would be a lot heavier than a altezza.

More to the point its being DIFFERENT that gets you places in the car scene (show scene) these days.

Anyway the prices of rotarys is sky rocketing threw the roof!

The coments about there reliablity is a bit beyond a joke, they are reliable if they are maintained properly (just like any engine).
My little brother has a 12a Bridgeport KP60 Starlet - that hauls, and is so reliable... and will always hold its value! If it had a 4age in it, it would be worth 1/2 as much as it is with a tang in it! FACT

But more to the point, what to stick in a KE35, light coupe body shell. Its going to have a Hilux LSD rear end in there, so thats sorted, also larger brakes from a AE86 (possibly).... just need the engine so solve the puzzle.

So dnt get me wrong, i love toyotas having owned well over 20 of them... Maybe time for a change, but at least it will still be a toyota with *maybe* a slight engine transplant....
KE-Corolla's for life!!!

im sure a lot of people would have suggested a 4agte rollas22 but seeing as you've just come from down that road i can see why you want something a little different.

Well designed.. Yes.
Light? Hell no.

eg. a guy swapped his rotor out for a v8, and his car gained 40kgs.

They area a very COMPACT engine, but its mostly full of metal. Whereas a larger v8 looks heavier, but its full of air comparitively. 8)

Although Im not sure of specific weights, I have been told that rotaries are deceptively heavy. Especially if you could swap it for an alloy block engine.

I dont see why so many people harp on about rotors so much. I mean NA rotors are pretty average really.
You get bugger all power unless you port the shit out of them, and then they run like crap below 5,000rpm. :?
Ive seen a few dyno plots of tuned NA rotor motors, and wasnt very impressed at all. :?
If people spent as much money on say a 2 litre NA piston engine as they did on an NA rotor, they would probably make just as much power IMO.

Infact I bet some modern variable valve timing motors are making the same sort of power, with superior low/midrange torque.

But I would say that. 8)

But you cant get a piston motor to go BRAP BRAP I suppose.

I think the reason they are called '1300cc' is because thats what you would think you are driving, at low RPM.

In saying that, one of my mates used to have an RX2 that was built by PAC performance in Aussie. It had big $&#$% off disc brakes all round, a diff out of a Mazda bongo van, and it revved to about 12,000RPM! 8O
That was a pretty crazy car! 8O

IMO: an original engine for a KE? A turbo charged hyabusa engine or two. :D

Dont know how many times I've had to repeat this, but a 13B with oil, and all ancillaries bar exhaust manifold weighs 130kg. I had one shipped to me on a pallet, they're not that heavy. Two of us lifted it off the back of a ute.
