What 4age is this?

Postby NA Drifter » Mon Jun 20, 2005 11:55 pm

1st look, it look like bigport 4age(due to rwd manifold), and then just the motor itself look like small port 4age due to timing belt cover(got hole in the middle),dip stick, lead cover/holder, cam cover, dizzy plug.... etc (but all this can be changed easily)
BUT, I never seen a rwd intake manifold for smallport 4AGE!?!?? :?
maybe is just an aftermarket rwd manifold for smallport 4age??

Have a look and see if it has the external oil drain out of the back of the head and back into the block. my guess is it doesnt and that means it's a Big port.
Looks to me like someone has fitted as many small port parts as possible to try and con someone into thinking it is actually a smallport when it is not.

Looks to have only 4 inlet runners. If so my guess someone has grafted a RWD plenum to a smallport.

Smallport only came out non-tvis and FWD. All TVIS manifolds have 8 runners, hence the reason I think this is a smallport with a TVIS intake plenum grafted to the 4 runner manifold.
Its certainly a TVIS plenum as the smallport plenum doesnt have a casting for the TVIS lable!

Yea looks like a smallport with a bigport inlet manifold, when looking at injectors they are evenly spaced unlike fuel rail of bigport engine, as well as dizzy, plug cover, dipstick etc

Is it possible they didnt cut and shut the manifold but simply adapted the big port plenum (with tvis insignia part on top) to the small port 4 runners?
On the strength of that I would say small port.

This guy obviously has a few engines lying around, looks like a beams 3sge or 2zzge plenum on the right side?

Thats what I'd go with only looks to be 4 runners. Have a look under the manifold for some welding

From my point of view it look to have 8 runners.

Not that you can see much of it but looking beside the TPS and next to the fuel pipe..

I still say bigport.

yeah looks like 8 runners to me.... look at the gearbox end of the manifold.
and the dipstick and dizzy look just like the ones on my bigport. also the "twincam 16 valve" looks to have been painted in a non factory colour.
the fuel rail isnt bolted in properly... i say some ones trying to be tricky

There are 8 runners in my picture too! I would say it is just a bigport with a couple of covers bolted on. :)

You took the head off to check for any damage? Can tell easy by the size of the inlet ports, didn't get the nickname big port for nothin

How was the engine condition? Any goodies you've found on the car?
