over boost problem

Postby The Wombat » Mon Jul 18, 2005 7:32 pm

ok hes whats happening.
my rover is over boosting the car should be running on its factory 6-8psi but its going up to 15psi in 1st>3rd gear and the boost cut is coming in, this is when the car is being driven hard. this has only just started to happen shortly after i installed my BOV ( a GFB Basic) at first i thought that the bov was not opening or was staying open, put simply i though is was not working correctly. However i put my mates BOV on my car ( a GFB Bovus maximus) and again it was opening correctly like the previous one and in 1st>3rd gear it was over boosting with ver little power and the boost cut kicked in. there is no boost tap or controller in the car and other than the boost gauge and BOV there is no other work been done to the car around the turbo system.

any thoughts cause this is worrying me. the cars not a daily driver and only gos out 2-3 days most

Check your wastegate hose, maybe it just started leaking at the same time as your BOV got put on... freeboosting is fun for about 2 minutes....

Check your wastegate actuator. Sounds like its not opening the wastegate. Try and wiggle the actuator shaft in and out with some pliers.
And of course, check the plumbing to the actuator.

you say there is only 1 vacuum hose?
if that is feeding both the actuator and bov,if so i would change that,

you also say that you changed the vacuum hose, is it a tight fit on to the fittings?

i prefer to drill and tap into the inlet manifold and run seperate fittings and hoses for each,

and you could try putting the actautor hose in at the compressor discharge, rather than off the inlet manifold,
