3sgte smoke on boost

hey guys... wondering if i could have some opinions...

when my st185 comes on boost it leaves behind smoke, i have thought of a few possibilities of causes but what are your thoughts?
any help much appreciated

what does it mean if my car have black smoke when it's on idle when the engine temp. on normal running temp?
For the 3SGTE, what we can do to adjust the fuel mixture? Is the aftermarket ECU and AFC the only two things to do?
I think my car is running quite rich and the fuel eco is not that great....

FIRST QUESTION, (Grey SMOKE) If its blowing grey smoke its burning oil either Rings, Valve guides of turbo seals, Take the ducts off the turbo if its oily inside the seals are worn..... if its dry the engine is gettin tired.

QUESTION 2, (Black Smoke) Blocked Airfilter, Faulty Temp sender (Could be signalling ECU thats it cold ie More Fuel), Or High Fuel rail pressure ie faulty Press Reg or restricted return Line, Injectors could need flushing also

sorry but grey/white smoke is not rings
turbo's do not have valve seals
also if its exhaust stem seals the turbo wiill still be wet
i cant be bother pickkiing more

I Disagree, Grey smoke is oil control problem, Oil bypassing Control rings will burn in the combustion chamber and produce Grey/white smoke, Im not saying it "IS" Oil control rings Im suggesting it "May" be!!. Just as a matter of interest....What colour smoke are you saying oil burning would produce? I realise Turbos dont have valve seals?, never said they did? Geez even my dog knows that!... but they have seals that prevent oil entering the housings...This would cause Grey Smoke if they were worn on either side!!...I agree with the comment on valve stem seals but minor weapage would be burnt off in the manifold....The seals and Guides also would have to be Very badly worn to reach the turbo to see any signs of oil and It would be burning Very bad smoke if it was, Which I dont think it is!!?. Im definatly no Turbo expert by a long shot!!... but taking off a Duct on the intake side and seeing oil inside the pipe would suggest the seals are weaping...Its alot quicker than unbolting exhaust flanges and trying to have a look...

Just my opinion.....Could be wrong!

ok to help you understand
and smoke produced during the combustion cycle is blue
why because its burnt more effentiatlty though the compression ignition cycle

any smoke burn after that is white
why ... tri dropping some oil on a hot plate and you will see

that also means that if your turbo leaks on the compressor side that the smoke will be blue

bad compression rings will mist out the rocker cover
this is attually the oil been burnt off the bore walls buy the heat and pflame bypassing the rings

the only thing i see you have correct is the "i am no ...expert"

Ok Ok.....You are correct, you obviously do know what you are talking about and are obviously a clever guy as per your trade...I apologise for that, yep it is more Blue than grey in colour!!...Ive jumped the gun!!

I Dont want to cause a fire....Just trying to help a guy out with a problem as I am a Qualified Mechanic with 20 yrs in the Trade....but hey I work with another four tradesman and we question each others diagnostics every day and if we are unsure on something thats not our cup of tea its outwork....

I always end my posts with "Just my 2 cents" or "I could be wrong" because I dont know everything and will be still learning to my grave thats why I joined this group!...maybe you can help me on a few things!?

I Came out with top Student in the first year of my Pre - Trade out of 22 Students, I was an M.T.A Apprentice. I have National Cert, Trade Cert and Advance trade Certificates in Automotive Engineering, I am also an AVI Authorised Inspector and been In the trade for 18 - 20 years, with experiance on cars from V8s to BMWs. I am a Contract Mechanic and work for myself and rely on my Knowledge and skills of the Trade to Earn a living......I take pride in my work and I have never had a job come back on me ever thats caused conflict and Loss of a Customer....So I think I can say with confidence I know my crap and I DONT F**K up cars!!!
