how much space do u need btween wheels/guards?

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Mon Aug 01, 2005 10:31 pm

im about to put an ae85 diff into my ke35 but the diff is 30mm wider than the standard sr coupe diff and ive also got mags which are 10mm wider than the current wheels. it will all fit in standard but I'll only have 5mm clearence each side between the tires and the inside of the guard. whats the least amount of clearence i could get away with? the guards haven't been rolled so I could get another few mm that way...

As long as they don't rub, it doesn't matter. I had an old Pulsar with no springs, some stupid smartassed wench cop tried to stick her fingers in the gap between the wheel and guard.. and goes, "I can't even get my fingers in there!"

And then my mate goes, "fat fingers, huh?" He owes me for that pink sticker! :x But seriously, I've had many a conversation with cops and wof people alike, as long as it doesn't rub under any load in the vehicle, you're fine. Although, the maximum they can stick outside the guard is 20mm, otherwise you need to flare them or get flares, but then you need cert for the body mod. I know, cos I've had to get it done!

5mm isnt much at all. I have 20mm (2cm) without anyone in my car, when i have 2 or more people in my car the tyres rub against the guards over basically any bump and cornering.

i'm talking about 5mm clearance between the side-wall of the tyre and the guard, not clearance up and down.

Even when rolled, I've got about 5mm guard clearance either side in the back with no-one in the car, but it never even scrapes much anymore... 8)

Not allowed to sit outside the guards at all, and needs cert for the diff change anyway.
