3SGTE, ecu question

Postby crispy'86 » Tue Aug 02, 2005 8:58 pm

Got a mate who's going to be running an ST165 celica gt4 engine in his viva race car, he's wanting an ecu and un-cut loom for one. The question is does it need to be the exact ecu and loom to drive the engine?? I want to back up my theory that it has to be the same ecu from engine, i know they are all AFM but would it make a difference running an ST185 gt4 loom and ecu or an SW20 one??

Yes you'll need the exact same loom, bigger injectors in ST185/SW20.

different spark setup too IIRC.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

That's rubbish, the injectors are closes enough (440cc/430cc).

Compression is different between the ST165 and St185. Other than that not much difference in parameters. Turbo/head differs of course.

Some rewiring of loom may be required if ST185 loom is used, but he would be removing a lot of the unecessary items anyway right?

I figured that's what the case would be, few people have said this. Well thanks for that info, much appreciated.

Just because you like to do things the rubbish way, that don't mean my proper way of doing things is rubbish.

Think before you post.
