Wheel-arch/Wheel clearance... roll out the best remedy?

What is the best thing to do when you've lowered your car (sport low) and then put bigger wheels on, and now have a little rub between the arch and the wheel on some bumps??

The garage that fitted the wheels say they could do a little panel work to roll out the arches a little, with a small risk to the paint.

What have other people done?? Does this sound like a fair option to take?

Also... does anyone know if I'm likely to strike troubles at WOF time?

Get the guard rolled (basically roll the lip up on the edge) if thats where its actually rubbing. Most panel beaters should do it for a small fee, best to ask a couple to get an idea of price. No issues with warrents, most really low cars will have this done

If its rubbing on something other than the lip on the guard then you'll have to find out where exactly its rubbing and get someone to have a look at it

Or if you want to do it yourself...

Put a couple of large people in the back, and stick a baseball bat or something similar up between the tyre and the guard and gently roll the car back and forwards turning the bat.

Drive and test, and repeat until fine.

Ha ha ha ha that's what's I had to do (Steal Pole) once I put the adjusty's in the GT but it was to flare the guard's out as the lip had already been done all by my mate who is a panel beater of course.. Work all good part from was hitting right in the top of the inner gaurd :S

I've got a KE70 sitting near-on cut bumps on 205's and it's impossible to make it rub anywhere, even with 3 in the back...it took a lot of testing...

All done with a hammer and a baseball bat, minimal paint damage too...

my mate had a starlet with 16s (and crappy soft springs) that was rubbing on a bolt right down the bottom of the arch, on the rear of the car. he lipped his guards (rangi styles) and stuffed his paint - which of course made no difference because it was the bolt, not the lip.
as mentioned before, check it out properly before you start bashing

If you've just lowered it and it is rubbing in the rear, especially on a more modern car...it is usually the guard lip.

But yes, it would be a good idea to double check before you start getting too serious.

real bad ended up cutting the plastic on the Petrol Flap Side as was rubbing on the Tyre then Cut the Rear Seat Belt Bolt's as they were rubbing on the inside of the tyre when going up angled drive way's etc..

I started mine with a power bar with a strong handle and then used hammer and dolly.
Now it rubs on the indent for the door to close into

Done the wheel arch roll out. All is well, just a little paint in under the arch has cracked a wee bit... will tidy that up to prevent rust. Got some mates in the back tonight for a cruise, no scraping noises! Excellent.
