ae86 slave cylinder issues

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Mon Aug 29, 2005 11:07 pm

im having a few problems with my ae86 slave cylinder at the moment...the push-rod is extending too far and making my clutch fork hit the bellhousing. this is also now causing the seal/sleeve around the rod to pull off the slave cylinder and all the fluid pours out.

i don't know whether anyone will know or not, but someone may have already been down this track before...

im using what i thought was a t50 clutch fork and a 20v thrust bearing/carrier. does the 20v carrier/bearing sit differently opposed to a 16v? (hence sitting the fork in the wrong place and causing the slave cylinder extend too far)

any info would be appreciated.
cheers

To the best of my knowledge the carrier is different for a RWD and FWD? This will cause your problem.

when i bought a new ae86 clutch kit the thrust bearing didnt fit my clutch fork (although im pretty sure it is a t50 clutch fork ive got) so ive just rung repco again and given them the model number of the bearing and they said it is for a t50/ae86, but there is another clutch kit with the exact same clutch/pressure plate - it just comes with a different type of bearing . . . so i'll go in tomorrow with a clutch fork and see if the other bearing fits

cheers

They use the same bearing so the Number will be the same! It is the RWD carrier that is different. You may not have one? Is it a new setup? Have you had it working?

yea thats what I meant, repco have probably given me a fwd carrier and told me its still for a rwd just because the bearing is the same. im getting a genuine ae86 carrier and bearing in from toyota tommorow and i'll see if that fits my fork, if it doesn't i'll have to see about getting a proper ae86 fork to fit the rwd carrier...

do you know exactly [b]how[\b] the fwd and rwd carriers are different? is it the 'arms' that are wider?
