actually, the wiring could be daunting if you arent used to wiring your own circuits, but even then its not that bad.

getting the nerve up to actually drill into the body of the car is probably the worst thing!

hmmm... this is going to be harder than i thought.

i cant find anywhere to mount the side neons.. to those that have done this before, themselves or by a shop, what were they mounted onto? pics would be ideal too plzplz.

(boohoo story, skip if you like)
i really would like to get this done soon.. before i even started with these ones, i had bought some little 12cm tubes for laughs, and since then have grown to like them, hence the upgrade. but the small tubes can be seen from the outside.. if i cant get the new tubes installed soon, ill have to remove the old ones and have no side neons :( cry.

One of my mates and several others ive seen were mounted just on the other side of the sill seam (where the wheel jack goes). my mates one also had alloy shielding facing outwards so the lights could not be seen when on, just a glow on the ground.
Cant believe im still a member here.

if you are having neons on your car, just like with any other non factory lights, make sure they are legal.
give this a read.....under cosmetic lighting...

Had a look, don't see how they would be illegal.

ltsa.govt.nz wrote:Fitting requirements

Cosmetic lamps can be any colour as long as they meet the following requirements.

* They must be angled downwards and fitted so that the light source isn’t directly visible from the front or back of the vehicle (this will prevent the lights distracting, confusing or dazzling other road users). See diagram below.

* You must not be able to see the light source (lamp) from anywhere in the shaded zone.
* They should only give off light that is spread out (diffuse) rather than light concentrated in a beam.
* They must not be positioned close to essential lights such as headlights or indicators.
* They must not flash, pulse, fade in and out or change colour.
* They must not revolve, rotate or move in any direction.

All that is easy to comply with, just dont make the "lamp" visible from the front/back

thats correct, but also from the sides.

in the end, i got some 170cm aluminum strips and bolted them well to the sill. neons attached to the middle of those (on the inside side of the skirts :P)

if you ever see a green corolla with electrical tape racing stripes and badly spraypainted flat (albiet crumbled a little) skirts, that would be me.

if you take your car to onroad you might either get craps thrown at you, or a pass with  depending on which inspector you get...

from what I understand it, they must be off while the vehicle is operating(aka moving). having said that I have yet to receive a ticket from the police.

but be warned you WILL get pulled over alot and the police will ACTIVELY be looking for things they can write you tickets for (rego, wof, any other things like tyres wider than the fender...etc)

i mounted mine inside the side skirts for the side, behind the front bumper and underneath fuel tank at the back if that's of any help to ya :P
