bit of trouble with my coilovers

Postby trueno_20v » Sun Sep 11, 2005 11:38 pm

i have just fitted daiyama ccg coilovers to my ae101 trueno (non super strut) the fronts are sweet as but the rears are not. both rear mags rub on the spring tension adjuster nut and when the wheel nuts are tightened it clamps it and car wont even move so i had to screw it up to clear the mag to get home from where i done it and it was f8*n bumpy ride! so needs to be back in original position without rubbing of course!? Should i grind 1 of the knobs flat on the nut as that is what is rubbing on the mag/tyre? any ideas would be kool. here is a pic of where the tyre rubs.

205 / 40 / 17?

on ae111 they are SO close to rubbing the lower hat / cover thing, its not funny.

i wouldnt suggesting grinding your spring back... but if its the only option, is it JUST touching them?

Could always get some very small spacers (we used washers on my old leone), for the rears....

just make sure you do the nuts up to the same torque :D. or you might sqeeze it a bit closer than the rest *whoops* hahaha.

dont grind the platform,
coilovers must be certed anyway, a certifier wont like it if they have been ground to make a wheel fit

use a spacer at the rear , dont use washers either like cozmo  , spacers are available from most wheel and tyre shops in sizes from 2mm to 8mm

Also get your wheel alignment checked. As you lower the height, you'll get more negative camber. If you've got too much in the rear when you've got it at the height you want it may rub but at standard settings it may not. There might only be 1/2 a degree in it.
See ya

Adjust your rear camber out and/or get spacers for them.

when getting spacer make sure there not multifit or you wont get your cert. they have to only fit the car as if they were designed just for it.

Even if they are not multi-fit they will not pass a cert unless the wheel is centered on the hub. The wheels are not only allowed to be on the studs, even if the studs are longer. (must be 'hub-centric' or some cr@p)

Yep, probably the best approach...of the two rear arms one set is adjustable (for toe adj), go to a wrecker and get another set of adj factory arms and replace the non adj arms, so now with all rear arms adjustable you can adjust out (widen) the rear track which aint a bad thing to do anyway completely legally and not needing any cert

if you are winding the spring perch up you have effected the preload on the spring and this will make it ride like crap/extremely stiff, if you need to adjust the height it should be done through bottom of the strut, when you get the spacers ( hub locating for cert ) then make sure you put the spring perch height back to where it was and use the lower section to adjust the height

yea this thought had crossed my mind but then i thought about all my mags and none of them fit the hub in the center...

but if were talking about 3mm it should still sit on the center of the hub??????

Don't grind the coilovers!

Trueno20v got these off us - fortyone.co.nz - and we both knew prior to purchasing these that there may be a hurdle or two as these are for AE100's not his specific make =]

Thats just normal, I can't honestly say any of mine have either. They are meant to apparently but meh.

The 3mm one MAY be alright. Have you got some already?
Two things come up when you look at spacers, the multi-fit ones are not OK because there is not enough to them, they are soft and malleable, meaning that there is a (slim if you ask me) possibility of the wheel nuts rattling off.
The second one is when you sit the solid one on the studs does the centre spigot/locator still come through? You could then use those Urethane/rubber locators. This MAY be alright, the guy that did my cert would have a look and let you know no worries.

same problem

Postby tomo1985 » Thu Sep 15, 2005 7:19 pm

I had the same problem with my K-Sport Adjustables but my rims are 18 x 7.5 on a carib. Rims just fit under gards so spacers could not be used and sadly had to sell adjustables  I was going to get custom made springs for them smaller in diameter so the rim wouldnt rub but ran into too many hurdles.

Good job! Don't forget to provide a write up of what you've done so that others who may need to do the same thing in the future have something to refer to =] The ride height looks good!

Looks great! The back doesn't rub on the springs or fender? How's the ride?
