Overfueling...Bad Tuning?

Postby Silent Knight » Thu Sep 22, 2005 8:58 am

Hey all,

I've noticed something whilst reading through a couple of thread on ALSC and it seems like the guys over there get a hell of allot more milage out of thier Soarer's over there than I've ever managed to get down here.

Now the fuel tanks are all the same size. What I don't know is wether they have better fuel over in Australia at all?

Now the thing is that some of the guys over there get up to 740/750k's out a full tank of gas compared to my 550k's on the open road. This is for around 70/75l of 98 Octane wich seems a bit off?

Other than that the car is running absolutely fine. Now what I'm trying to figure out is what exactly would it be? Can it be that it is overfueling/running rich? Although I think if it was running that rich I would have seen more problems by now?

Otherwise the car could be a bit out of tune. If I was to ackquire something like an Apex Air/Fuel controller and give that a good tuning would this be able to solve the problem? Give me a bit better milage or is there something else that I need to start looking at?

Cheers,

Hanré

Dead straight open roads with no elevation changes?
Possibly the gearset and aerodynamics allow for greater efficiency at higher speed? IE they have a higher open road speed limit.
Your ECU is in limp home mode, O2 sensor failure, etc?
They have a childrens size 2 right foot.
They are full of shyte?
The answer is Helmholtz!

Anywhear where I can drive basically up and down North Island. And yea they have a hell of allot more striaght flat roads. But see the thing is I get the same economy when I'm fanging it and when I drive like an absolute nanna not passing 100kph.

I doubt the whole of Australia can be full of shyte all at once allthough it is still Australia...

Might be the O2 sensor...haven't actually checked that yet. Will endeavour to replace that and reset the ECU at some point. Any other ideas if these don't work?

~10km/L is pretty good mileage for such a big car, I'd agree with RedMist about the totally flat roads.
as said check the codes etc, but your economy does not sound to bad really.
although not any more valid then the forum postings you have read;

http://www.alljapanesecars.com/specsvie ... jzz30&gn=6

with the 1jz this site says around 8.0-8.9km/L, which is closer to yours

Hrmmm might make sense yea but can flat roads and maybe a bit better octane gas make almost a 200km difference in economy though?

I haven't gone out on the Dyno yet. I want to get my FMIC and part of the zorst sorted with a bit of a tune with an Air/Fuel controller before I put her on a dyno.
