the v160 is massive compared to a w55, larger even than an r154. A w55 will easily handle the power of a 1.8L NA, and it will be faster because it doesn't weigh as much as the v160

Last time I checked there's a hell of allot more difference than just 500$ between a W55 and a V160... :?

cheack over seas particularly Japan where you can find them quite easily. i run a direct importer for chch. Hence the reason they are so cheap. All good if you want a hook up?? :P

Can you not read $500 on top of what it was going to cost me for a recon w55 which was $1200. Is that an expensive price for a supra gear box??

It helps having three people in japan

1 = Licensed Motor Vehicle Trader
2 = Auto Wrecker
3 = Translater who you went to school with and have known for years.

any questions??

Can get half cuts of most vehicles for around the $500 to $800 dollar mark depending on the vehicle and whats in it.

e.g BZG AE101 Half Cutt = $475 dollars for rear $600 for the front.
Honda Type R Integra = $600 for front $570 for the back.

Whole cars that are 20 years old can now be imported too as long as you have engineers reports from japan if it was ever crashed.

$1200 for a w55? hahaha
still, even $1700 for a v160 is a massive bargain, infact it's a pretty good price for a miserely r154 :)

Have you ever reconditioned your gearbox before man especially one as old as a 55?? get a price and then try laughing and $1700 is the cheapest price i found one for not the going rate.

And as for a half cut for an altezza if they were cheap I would get one and do a 3SGE conversion ....... not.

because its a new car there hard to find in wreckers in japan are you interested could find one and get a price inclusive of shipping??

HAHA well if you think that like 1200$ for a W55 is cheap then I say go for it. Considering the going rate for them is around 3-400$ and they are readily available everywhere in NZ.

buy a manual 5 speed cressida (and some coronas) thats rusted out or just won't get a warrant (plenty of them around) for $50

take out the gearbox

theres your w55 or w57

$&#$% paying $1200 thats just nuts

i'm just confused as to why you would bother rebuilding one for $1200 when you can get decent ones for $50?

ok to me doing a project like what im doing with a second hand gear box to me is like rebuilding an without changin the bearings. Yeah I know I can get one for 50 - 100 bux and it would last but I have driven a recond W55 and it is 100 times better than a $50 20+ year old gear box with an unkown history.

I agree with your logic, may as well rebuild one so your car drives much nicer and lasts a bit longer assuming its up to the power. If on the other hand you will need to change it every month then there is no point and you just use the $50 ones.

of course you'd might aswell just use a rebuilt K50 as it'll be a lot lighter and probably isn't going to be destroyed by the power of a mostly stock 4age

I payed $400 for a fairly average running Celica/Supra with a mint w55. I wouldnt waste my money on r154 ect. the w55 seems to hold up in my z30 soarer.
