Spray on tint

Postby trueno_20v » Wed Oct 12, 2005 1:20 pm

I brought some replacement tail lights for my ae101 trueno and they are tinted with spray on tint, just wondering if anyone knows how i would get it off without stuffing the plastic lens?

meths? degreaser? terps? that sort of thing.

and also make sure you give the lenses a polish too (metal polish, or plastic polish works)

Mineral Turpentine works best, available for about $4 at any supermarket...

Meths also works, but not as quickly...

Could use Prepsol,, prob will dull the Plastic but then you could just get a coat of clear sprayed over them.. That's what I done to my Bike Tail Light and Indicator's and they turned out mint..

Solvent N will do it the quickest, BUT make damn sure you get it all off otherwise it will melt the plastic.

Hence why you'd just use Turps, two or three wipes takes it off, and it doesn't leave any residue/marks, or damaged the plastic...

...and did I mention its $4 a litre...

Well then if you want to do it that way, use Meths and pick up a loaf of bread for straining purposes as well...

can also use Meguiars PlastiX b4 or after you have used the solvent, I had white paint on a tail light and it took it right off, will remove any swirl marks and light scratches, and makes any clear plastic well "clear" Works on the plastic speedo housing as well. Makes em look better then new.

I'm with perv on this one. I had to clean some of that stuff off my indicator lenses and turps works great. Just use a clean rag and rub. Make sure you keep it quite wet when rubbing to prevent it from 'resticking' to the lens.

I used brasso to make my yellow-with-age head lights clear... do u think that Plastix stuff would make them look like new? Brasso helped, but im still not 100% satisfied.

Nah still red. but one side is more dull than the other - think one of them has been replaced before. Would be nice if they were back to their shiny glossy red look.
