4age DX ""HELP PLEASE""

Postby DXIN » Sat Oct 22, 2005 2:19 am

GOt me a DX last week wondering about anything to do with the conversion of either a 4agze and 4agte or just 4age. pricing, problems, what gearbox is best, mounts, mods, what 4age to use..... etc etc or possibly if someone has an engine or g/b. cheers

Any 4age depends what power you want! blue or red are easiest to convert to rwd as 20valves have the dizzy in an annoying place!

Now where do we start...

Ok say for instance you are using a blue top,

you need: Motor, loom, ecu, a rwd inlet manifold either brought or home made, unless using carbs ofcourse.

3au crossmember from ae70 or ae85 depending on steering and t50 with 4age b/house and all the jazz 2 do with clutch. if your fealing cheap a 3au k50 could be used but it wont handle the jandel for too long and the u series diff deffinatly wont! So a....

T series rear end is a must!

Bolt it all in, sort out cooling possible 3au ae70 radaiator and rwd water pump, get someone to do the wiring and hey presto

When using a red top 4age the water temp sensor housing located on g/box end of the motor needs to be swaped for that of a blue top as red top houseing wont clear the firewall. you will see why when you try it.

when using silvertop the dizzy is in the same spot so if kept requires fire wall bashing so remove all you r heater and have it poking through the dash ( can make in car timing possible  )

If you want turbo do all of the instructions above with a 4agze and just bolt a turbo to the side.

The easiest option persay would be a carbied blue top....less fuss and ok power output with some minor mods!

Look at atleast setting aside 2g's but i have seen it done for under a grand with red top 100kw including twin 45 sidies t50 and t series rear!

Goodluck with the project and if you have money left over you could convert to twin headlight front
8)

(OO=I=OO) twin headlight all the way!

Its a fairly easy conversion, especially in a dx

if you can't find a t50 with a 4age bellhousing

with a few modifications a 5k t50 bellhousing can be made to fit (cheaper and easier to find)

nope, a 4age won't oblt straight into a standard ke70 xmember - as far as I know anyway.

if you buy grottys engine mounts, all you gota do is bolt them to the 4age and then your engine will bolt straight in, no cutting, welding or grinding needed. very easy option if you don't have access to all that stuff.

i just cut my mounts off the xmember and welded new ones on to suit my standard 4age mounts instead.

i've also got a t50 box, unknown condition. ive been told its stuffed but ive never had it apart or driven it so can't say for sure. you'd be better off finding one nearer to chch though and shipping would cost a bit. i got a mate in chch who might have a spare one though. I also got a bellhousing to bolt a t50 up to a 2t/3t, but may suit a 4age with a bit of modification? im not too sure how much would be involved.

Cheers mate, but im now im thinking of a real cheap option and just bolting in a 5k and doing it up. i dont really wanna spend too much but still have it run mint and pretty quick. id rather get my personalise plate and my interior and flares sorted before a 4age and for me it'd cost too much ay... dont have that much dedication. and i need it as a daily. so cant really go under construction.

Yeah, but often by the time you pay the ridiculous prices people are asking for them along with the RWD mounts if your motor doesn't have them then a set of Grotty's mounts is a bloody good deal.
