What turbo does your 4agte run?

Im building my turbo manifold now, want to know what flange to make...

What turbo do you guys run on your 4agte? How does it run? What turbo would you suggest I use?

Its for a small port 4agze (well, almost a 4agze :wink:)

Its for street application.

doesnt go too bad , but has a bit more lag than id like for the size of the turbo. full boost is round mid 4000rpm at the moment,but i suspect there is other parts of my setup affecting it :? has currently made 175kw atw@15psi. the injectors maxed out and stopped pushing it further that day , but should sneak up over 200kw at 19-20ish psi.
sidenote - it sounds quite nice spooling up,maybe be because its ballbearing type , and they pop up on rexnet everynow and then for 500-600$

looking at other peoples setups , the t3 hybrid seems to be where its at for fairly serious power. tdo5 16g's seem to produce good results too.
i have heard good things about the ht18 as a hybrid , but never seen any running firsthand.
also take into account what compression your engine will run,as that will affect turbo spool a lot, and the design of the manifold.

i looked at doing this, one of the fullas from clubaw used a VF10 from a GT wagon on his converions, there was one going here for 200 a few weeks ago

vf10's are a lot smaller , it would end up being the main thing limiting power. that said , it depends what your goals are and how serious you wanna get.

Once I get my exhaust manifold ill do a proper drawing with measurements for who ever wants to make one, ill also try get the pipes all similar areas. It only extudes out 154 total with 1.25' nominal schedual40 pipe and 12mm flange. Its high mount design for bling effect :wink:

Im aiming for about 130-140 fwkw with 14psi on standard ae101 gze computer. Maybe a vf8? I here these are bigger than vf10s.

Your setup if something to be desired :D Im on a budget though hence only wanting around 130-140 at the treads. Also running 8.9 gze pistons.

I was running a TD04 frm a GSR lancer on my 4AGTE 20valve silvertop. Went good, lacking in top end tho! Still was producing 10-16psi of boost.

How much power? Was thinking of using a TD04 but heard horror stories from EVIL_SI about them...

From my limited experience i found that td04's spool up real quick but max out quite quickly, 6000rpm or less. Depends what your after. For street it would be quite good but if you enjoy racing or driving hard go for something bigger.

Nice prodesktop image, is it upsidown or is it a high mounted turbo. One popping over your bonnet would look pretty funky :lol:.

Looks like aftermarket evo extractors :D

Gl with the project 1998!

Oh and td04's have ceramic turbine blades. They dont like higher booost. They tend to send bits of hot ceramic into your engine. I wouldnt run one over 16 or so psi for long. They will do 12 day in day out though. A td05 out of a evo would be good though, depends how much you want to spend. The ones out of the 96 and on have rollerbearings or some sort of improved bearing structure to reduce lag. Good top and and bottomish end

Cheers si might go with the td04 im going to look at one tomorrow hopefully.

Haha turbo out the bonnet? Nah theres heaps of space for a bling blingin high mount. I've got my final design done and im going to make two, one for me and one to sell to cover costs then ill release it for who ever wants to make it 8)

Yeah td04's are good small turbos. But im sure after a while you'll want something bigger. A td04 would be happy chillin in your garden playin with the snails :lol:

Take a look at some td05's 8) Or any medium/large ball bearing turbo!

the only problem with that manifold design is the collector...it's going to be way too big and you're going to get massive velocity losses as the gases exit the single pipe into the collector 4 times the size. nice work though, what did you draw it with? solidworks?

I was going to bring them into one then reduce it and send the through the turbo as one, or should I reduce the pipes individually and send all for into the turbo seperate i.e keep them seperate pipes all the way to the flange?

I think he means reduce it from 4 > 2 then to 1 then the flange to maintain the exhaust velocity as it enters the turbo

well basically the way I understand it, is that the best way is to have the pipes very close to each other and slowly merging. Kind of hard to describe, but basically you should have to cut bits out of the sides of each pipe to make them fit, but it should all end up as one pipe (not necessarily a very long one) with an outlet not much bigger than any single one of the primary runners.

here's a shot of the one evil_si did for mine. it's not quite perfect, as the collector is reasonably large diameter, but it's about halfway there and should be pretty acceptable

well i'm a bit different, i have a garret t3, it's off a vw deisel something, .36a/r exhaust, and .48 compressor, see my link below for whats on my setup. pretty simple design manifold.

i get full boost in 3rd gear at 3200rpm, spools like a little bitch, and goes hard all the way to the redline, doesn't run out of puff considering how low it spools. mine is 8.0:1 compression too.

i think your aim of 130-140kw should be done on less boost, i got 125kw atw on 10psi, with 0deg timing, if i was going to run 10psi all the time i'd advance the timing and see more power.

on 15psi my dyno curve was heading a a pretty steap climb until the a/f ratio got too lean, but at 5000rpm i had 145kw atw, so should see around 170 on 15psi. and once i get my external on, with 18psi, hopefully about 185-190kw, if it's more, i'd be stoked.

my turbo will be the limiting factor in my setup, even though it's been rebuilt also with 360deg thrust kit.

all in all, good turbo, very driveable round town, spools fast, makes reasonable power 8)

Dirty old steel-wheel T3 from a Nissan Z18 motor (apparently). Didn't have any real trouble with much on mine. 8.9:1 GZE on standard ECU and timing with up to 14psi and was brilliant.

where did you get ya heat wrap from, i'm trying to find some for cheap, how many meters did you use? just for a rough estimate, i wana get my manifold, wastegate piping, and a bit of the dump pipe done?

I think I got 2 rolls of the 50ft x 1in stuff which did the manifold, downpipe and exhaust up to the firewall in an AE92. Went and got a 3rd roll in the end and did another layer over the manifold. Was about the perfect length for it actually.
