4wd conversion, surely it can be that easy?

There is an interesting auction on trademe where someone is selling a collection of parts that they were going to use to convert an AE92 or AE101 to 4wd + 4agze.
They recon there wouldn't be any fabrication required, has anyone tried this before? Surely its not as easy as they make it sound.

Well snce there is no such thing as a rear diff for ae92 im doubting it, possibly be an ae95 diff, but it has a diffrent chassie code for a reason....

i do agree with the ae92 rear diff comment, anything with a 5 on the end is 4wd... so yeh, ae92 cant possibly have a rear diff.

no its not that easy at all, its ALOT of work (ask matt dunn), if you want a rwd, go buy a supra, a celica etc, or a silvia / skyline sort of thing.

converting a fwd to rwd will never handle the way a silvia and such will.....

less you spend heaps ;) hahahah.

Must remember though that some one has converted an ae101 wagon to rear wheel drive.

With a rotor in it...

some corolla wagons are live axle rear.....
all other ae101s etc are IRS.

this has been talked about many many times. i beleive a carib or two have been done....

if to want to do it, just buy a 4WD version and fit a 4agze.... there is doubt about the drive line strength though....

is not worth pissing around trying to make a fwd version 4wd....
the floor pan is different... think prop shaft and suspension mounting...

and not all 4wds end in 5......

I looked at a 4wd corolla wagon that had an E56F I think it was - which should be pretty strong (depending on how beefy the transfer is)

This is entirely correct - if you want a 4wd then just get one - they are available. A 4wd ae101 would probably be nearly as heavy as an st185 ;)

well judging by what I've seen on most E series boxes, you could probably use a gt-four transfer case without too much hassle, which is fairly beefy.

Was tired was meaning they dont have a rear diff, let alone an irs diff. :oops:

EDIT: E55F5 in mine, arnt they compatiable with gt four box internals or somehitng....(im probly wrong)

The diesel corolla wagon has a leaf sprung rear diff. If you put a 101 on a hoist you can see where it can be mounted. There is plenty of room back there.
