Legnum VR-4 Check Engine Light, only TRC BUT......

Postby KiwiMR2 » Wed Nov 23, 2005 10:23 pm

Starting to piss me off!!

I have tried all the Mitsi forums so It's probably a long shot but MAYBE someone can help.

Mint 1997 Legnum VR-4, initially we had a fault with the traction control, it wouldn't work.....couldn't turn it on and off so we ASKED for it to be replaced so it would essentially work. We were told that was done and for at least a week or two it worked and all was good (well as far as I can tell it worked, using the switch on the bottom right of the dash I can turn it OFF (TCL OFF lights up) or on (nothing to say it's on but as no "off" light up I assume it is on?).

So after a week of normal use we get a check engine light coming on and in turn this turns the TCL off.

Well with what was "supposedly" done we decided we should get Mitsi motors to sort it, dropped it this morning & collected at the end of the day. Results:

"Report on engine check light coming on, checked with board compuiter, found codes 71 and 77 logged, 71 "TCL" vacum circut, and 77 Solenoid operation, cleaned and secured all electronic plugs and pins as required, cleared fault code and reset computer as required, road tested, all ok"

$121.50

Drove 40 km's home....all great, went to the olds for diner, got in 3 and a half hours later to head home.....1 min after driving away the check engine light is on and the tlc off

Mitsi say they aren't provided with all the "diagnostic" software or equipment and if what they did doesn't sort it they may need to get it looked at by an auto electrician as they can't work out anymore than that.

Now what!!?? Anyone know a decent auto electrician that knows there stuff but won't charge an arm & a leg??

Cheers

Try getting that $121 back.. as whatever they did didn't fix the problem.

i dont know _anything_ about mitsis,
but I know a wee bit about traction control.

couple of basic things to try.

- when first turning on car leave in Park / neutral for at least thirty seconds, make sure your wheels are STRAIGHT

- try clearing the codes then do the above.

may not be any help but it maybe as well

Would be good....but i guess at the end of the day time is money & they spent the time checking it out, taking it apart & re-checking everything.

Will give it a go, apparently though the only way to clear the codes in Mitsi's is to plug it into there diagnostic machine other wise it stores it :(

Worth a go all the same, cheers for the ideas :)
