was reading on the forums that new zealand cv's ltd apparantly can recondition them

as getting a new one through toyota costs bout 1k as you have to get them with the drive shafts.

so will get in touch with nz cvs first and see if they can reco them

yea i got a rubber mallet, a sledge hammer with a short handle, a standard hammer and a concrete chisle banging type hammer thing i guess.

Rebuilding one should only be around the $160 mark, thats what I was quoted for an AE92 GTZ inner to be rebuilt

Exciting new developments =( the rotational knoking is gone, or quiter so cant hear it. however replaced by quite loud thunking/thumping/banging when the road is bumpy, so was wondering could the inner cv get so bad that it would make that sound? when car is jacked up and turn wheel back and forth with hand theres quite a lot of contact noise coming from in the gear box where the drive shafts go in.

From the sounds though the shocks were not bolted in proper or something was loose and gona fall off but cant find anything at all dodgy other than the noise coming from gear box.

HAHA! mines excactly the same

Slow on a tarmac road and shes knocky as hell, almost like your suspension isnt bolteed in (as nzcelica put it), when you hit gravel... (certain gravel actually), the big lumpy stuff and she dosnt make much noise, the fine gravel (heaps of little beads), man... id have sworn my rear sway bar has disconnected and is dragging across the ground!

HORID noise.

however it hasnt died yet :D and shes going to levels soon (not to race, but still, 200km's more on it)

so i take it cozmo that the noise is related to iner cv in your case aswell? or is it another random noise?
thanks
took it to mechanics today but all booked out till like week b4 xmas, so need someone to have a look at it, think i got someone sorted

Inner CV's tend to shit themselves regularly on lowered cars, when you drop the car by a couple of inches, it changes the driveshaft angles, to the point where there is excessive pressure on the inner CV, which mangles the bearings/bearing posts inside the CV.

I normally just go to a wrecker, and get another CV/driveshaft, and swap the good guts over with the knackered ones. Its' a cheap fix (most driveshafts with both CV's are $50 - $100) but as with any non-new part, you don't know when it'll crap out again. Last time I had CV's replaced professionally, from memory I paid $220 a side with labour.

Drive Inn in Auckland did me a decent deal for my outer joint. $95 or thereabouts for a new one. Supercheap on the other hand quoted "in excess of $500", just called them for a laugh :D

managed to source a second hand one will get that in soon hopefully.
However the knoking that i described before was sorted out today, it was the frikin shock, the front shocks are gab and the hole leg has an insert of the shock and the nut or whatever that holds the shock insert in place had come loose so the shock was wobling inside the case =( scary, but sorted now
