To replace the fuel pump. The tank needs to be removed to get to the pump. Before I do that I will have to take a line off the fuel filter and see if it actually is pumping. Plenty of spark but nothing to be ignited im guessing.

Your lucky if its a fuel pump, easy fix. Just undo the lines, drop the two belts holding it up, drop it down, replace pump, put it back and your done. You could probably do it with the fuel in it. Apparently your suppose to replace the o ring sealing the fuel pump and tank...

Toyota pumps are pretty generic. I replaced a st162 pump with a '92 bluebird sss pump. Same mounts, depth, etc.

Should be sweet with the fuel in it.

It will be easier without though, so if its your first time, maybe drain the tank.

Yea definatly, and because itll only be up on a couple of jackstands on my driveway its best to make it as light as possible. Ill just take the fuel sender/gauge unit out and figure out something. Maybe bunnings/mitre 10 will have one of those petrol pump things that you squeeze a couple of times and it gives you continuous flow. Would make the job alot easier.

Yip. There is only an access panel to the fuel sender/gauge unit. Otherwise all you can see from there is the wires going back to the pump. I had a crawl under the car and I could feel the lines coming from the pump at the back, Also I have read through the Haynes manual and it says to syphon the tank, under to fuel lines, undo the straps and itll come out.

Yea my friend said to use the hose, but seeing as we fill our pool with it I said ahhhhhh no. I might end up towing it into my dads work as he has some hoists there which would make life alot easier.

Took the fuel line off the top of the fuel filter to see if there was anything being pumped. A fair bit came out when I gave it a quick crank over so either its faulty or theres not enough pressure as the injectors need 50-60psi to work? New fuel pump from Ripco is about $280 inc gst trade which is friken rediculous. Going to have to organise and auto elec or something to pop up, I dont want to go through the hassle of taking out the petrol and replacing the pump to find its not that.

Thats weak man.

You can pick up fuel pumps from pick-a-part. Just steal them from the newish but crashed cars, so its not mechanical failure.

Might take 2 hours make to drop the tank, replace the pump then put it back in. Depends on tools and how much effort you put in.

Just get a mechanic to pop up and check the fuel pressure, its like a 5 min job. Chekc the haynes manul, it should tell you the fuel pressure range. That price for a fule pump is about the norm.

Yea it definatly is the pump, It only dribbles out the top of the fuel filter with the line off. Going to have to drain the petrol and replace it with a second hand one. Thanks for the comments and help!
