bluetop turbo vs gtz turbo

Postby bluemaumau » Wed Jan 04, 2006 12:00 pm

as stated. the pros and cons of each.
obviously bluetops are 20xs easier to get hold of than gzes, and cheaper but what about max hp, boost ,etc what mods need to be done to get a bluetop to run a turbo application?
would a bluetop drop strait into a 93 ae101 4afe wagon?
thanks in advance

mods: pretty much the same

hp: not much difference

the difference is in how long each will last!

hmmm nope doesnt look rwd to me.

the GZE would the one that could make the most peak hp and live.
as its got the forged pistons. while you could prob get a similar amount frm a bluetop, id would die long before the GZE

ok then the internals are NICE they run beautifully on a N/A car, but as the post is about turbo applications that is the truth.

revhead - im taking the gtz will last longer. - but the gtz can handle more boost (+20psi) cant it? were as bluey - like 16psi max? correct me

Pound for pound ..small crank vs large crank makes more power from our dyno runs.

If it were me and I wanted to experiment i would go 7rib block bluetop crank with shot peined rods and custom JE pistons or something for it
.. around 8.9:1 and see how it goes

but i would go for a GZE if you have the money

by how much?

the only prob with the 40mm crank is the 18mm gudgeons. JE pistons cost a bit. maybe machining out the rods to take the 20mm pins and using ze pistons.

guess it comes down to $$ vs what you want.

yeah .. people with similar setups are usually abour 3-5kw@wheels down per pound of boost ... but it does depend on the build of engine and the tuner ..
my 8.0:1 ze is making 148kw on 11psi ... which is on par with my crazy bluetop :D once it hits 15psi ... should have it up to about 20 or so for Rotor nats
