MR2 turbo owners, please help

Postby Malcolm » Tue Jan 10, 2006 5:46 pm

As some of you may remember (but most probably don't), my MR2 had a strange dipstick problem, where the oil wasn't showing on the dipstick despite there being nearly 4L of oil in it. While tearing apart the motor, I discovered the cause. Someone has replaced the dipstick with one that is way too short! It's barely longer than the dipstick tube itself.

Anyway I need someone with a 1990-93 MR2 turbo to measure the length of their dipstick, from the Full mark to the cap/seal that sits at the top of the dipstick tube. Alternatively if someone has a spare I would gladly take it

Thanks :)

i had the same problem, then dad (aircraft tech for 28years) suggested put vivid on the stick, put it in and the oil actually stuck to it, because the oil wasn't giving me a reading on the stick

Poor you.

I had a spare stick, which i promptly bent the tip into a U shape hook so I can use it to fish things that fall into the SW20's engine bay

Unless you're talking about the dipstick, in which case I will measure it when I get home. :P

310mm. :?

Edit: That was from the very end of the dipstick to the plug, so the distance you requested would be even shorter than that.

I think that might mean I have an NA dipstick, because that's about the same length as mine
