errr....see above
i wont be launching at all due to fear of gearbox munch-age!
still looking on the bright side if i do destroy the box it will give me the excuse to get a 6 speed unit in and go for some reasonable power upgrades

mm yeah.. lunching gearboxes isn't the best thing i agree, mine was rebuilt 4 months ago, 1st gear was stripped :) my clutch has done 7000ks, gearbox 6000k since having new bits put in.. but yeah.. i don't do redline launches.. side stepping the clutch kills em, gota take ya put off quick but not too quick and not too slow, slow makes the clutch smell nasty hehe.

If you don't launch it you're going to struggle to do even get into 13's.

Are you going to change gears really slowly as well then? I've seen more subbies kill off gearboxes from a snap shift to second or third than I have launching off the line.

Use my trick - pump the tyres up for race day. Then you can dump the clutch at 8K with no fear, it just spins up all 4 and takes all the strain off

Still netted consistent 1.8 - 1.7 60fts though, so it worked just fine!

diss1dent - does your car have tha adjustable centre diff? See if you can set it to 50/50 locked or however it works in those, your car was spinning up the fronts only in a big way last time you raced.

Nah, his one doesn't have it.

Was there much lift in the front? Apparently the rex's are quite bad for lifting the front off the line but I don't know if it's model specific or just hearsay. Obviously with the weight transfer most cars are going to but anti-lift kits are pretty popular in aus for them. Mind you, they only have 800 sti in total so it could just be standard wrx's.

yea I notcied the fronts lighting up a bit. I need to get new tyres.
Btw, I've launched my car no less than 50 times and its fine, infact I think it likes it.
Ako's right, I drop my tyre pressure to 18psi on the way out to drags and I notice a good improvement in traction.

Think i'll do 3x Hard out runs with redline launch.. then take it easy for the DYO, although i find it hard it get off the line well without doing a hell launch, it always bogs down, or i slip the clutch too much and it smells bad.. lol

Best to start off a bit easier and work it up till you get the feel of the clutch at those rev's. Also, whats the point in practising launching hard only to take it soft in the DYO? Your time will be far slower and you'll lose because you didn't know how much to compensate for the slow launch.

Pretty mint night, only decided after scrutineering if I was actually going to race because I didn't get there before race gas closed. Had a nice empty tank ready for the high octane but had to settle for 10L of 98 after a mad dash to BP fendalton.

Glad I did coz first run got a 15.7 @85.22mph which is .4 quicker than I've been. Biggest difference was in the 60ft, last 2 times out I was averaging 2.4 to 2.5 and tonight I got a 2.2, 15.7 was done on a 2.304. Thank you mister Dunlop man for making those direzzas, ran at 18psi as the hachi has little weight over the rears.

Managed to take out the DYO class, huge competition in the form or ONE honda crx. He missed 4th gear and I got 50bux for the win. Downside to that was we only got one shot at the $500 for best reaction as only race passes were counted.

Good to see a few others out there too, prenty much fun to be had

Yep well done JT & the other T/Speeders who entered.

Andy did well for his first time out there and there was good comic relief with Richard sharing the announcing duties - a good laugh.

Cheers, Broz
