GT-Z or GT-ZApex

Postby Tru3no20v » Thu Jan 12, 2006 8:30 pm

Hey

atm i have a AE-101 Trueno GT-Apex, going stong no probs.
Im keen for a gtz also but have been told that i could bolt on an SE12 or SE14 to my stock standard 20v.

Just wonderd if any one has done this befor, or if anyone thinks id be better of just getting a stock GT-Z and working that eg Turbo.

Any views welcome a, jst doing this as like research befor i make plans

Also, yeah wrong section but, if anyone knows of any GT-Z's for sale id be kenn to know, not alot on trademe,

Cheers

You could just bolt the SC12 or 14 onto your motor, but it wont last long :P.
Really comes down to how handy you are mechanically, a 4AGZE swap would be the least hassle.

Unless you're *definitely* going to mod the GT-Z, you might as well hold onto your Apex. The power difference isn't that significant between the two, the GT-Z just feels faster because of the buckets of torque it has from idle. They tend to run out of puff above 5500rpm, and a decent silvertop only begins to shine above 5500rpm.

Of course if you've got $5k saved up and you're going to turbo the beast, then definitely get the GT-Z :)

By far the cheapest solution is to sell the n/a and buy a GTZ.

converting an APEX to a GTZ is a pita unless you have the comple donor car next to you. far cheaper and easier to just buy a GTZ.

you can run a s/c on the stock 20v. you will however need a good intercooler and ecu. for a longer lasting engine though you really want to put 4agze pistons in it.

so the 2 best options i can see is:
turbo or s/c your currant car. both requiering rebuild and ecus etc to do it right

sell the 20v and buy a GTZ. then mod that.

both wil prob work out the same in $$$ as a GTZ can cost 5-6k and an APEX will only fetch about 2500-4000 on th emarket at the moment.

sweet, yeah thats pretty much along the lines of what i was thinking, if i was to do say s/c the 20v would the only parts be pistons for internal work? yeah i got told at work theres nit much between a 4agze and 4age 20v. And keeping the 20v i have has only done 140,000k's and id still have VVT and 20v if those are befinfits to worry about in the fist place.
Have any idea tho if its safer to turbo a 4agze rather than my car?
thanks for your info aye

the pistons are the only internal part needing change.

there is a bit between a 20v and a 4agze. torque is everything and the 20v is seriosuly owned by the 4agze in torque.
the only time the top end of the 20v would be an advantage is on a fast flowing track. even then id take a good driver

a 4agze would handle turboing alot better than a stock 20v.

remember that if your turboing or s/c a 20v you MUST change the ecu and injectors etc

A set of mild cams, up the compresion a bit & get aftermarket ECU or piggy back fuel & that'll liven the silver top up. You should get about 150hp at the flywheel.
Other wise drop some ZE pistons in it, bolt on a turbo, programable ECU & you'll leave GTZ's for dead. HP will depend on boost level. 200hp easy i would say
