Postby DXROLLA » Sun Jan 22, 2006 1:42 pm

Hey ive just got me a 1983 Kp60 Starlet (2 door) and was wondering i have me engine (4K) that i have been doing up for me DX would this be sweet to bolt into the starlet which has a 2K and also use the standard diff out of the DX or are they the same diff? Oh and the DX is a 1982 KE70 sedan.

engine will bolt straight into the starlet.

depending how "worked" the 4K is, the diff should stand up to it.

Depends how much of an animal you are to how much the diff will take! if its a drop hatch it will have the same size diff head as a ke70

Oh ok i was just wondering about the diff ratios as in the 2K it seems to b reevin pretty hard at 100kph or is that more to do with the 4speed box?

Also as far as cheapish break upgrades go what sorta thing is best to do and what sorta costs? as the breaks at the mo to put it nicely are $&#$% SHIT!

What you need to get the brakes updraded for?? How hard are you going with this 4k of yours. Some competition pads and linings should do it, and changing the brake fluid would be recomended as well.
If you really want to change the brakes get hold of some ke30 front struts including the brakes (rotor, calipers the whole lot) change the lower arm ball joint on your starlet to ke 30 ones and bolt it all up, bleed brakes and front is done. Otherwise if you can do some fabricating yourself you could put just about anything you want to on there :) Or if you have a big wallet same applies.
As for the reving thing as much to do with the box as anything, if you still have a standard diff that is. If it's been changed it may be the diff but i doubt it is. PS 4 speed boxs are stronger than 5's

unless your doing it as a track car..why would you be doing 150km?

if your wanting to go serious, think about upgrading your diff to a ae85 one, and your front brakes to ke70 - bit of work involved, but will stop you.

The reason that people prefer 4 speed boxes for their 'race' starlets is because they are lighter, and also because they dont really need a 5th gear for gravel sprints etc.

Yes it is going to be a track car but will also be used on the road, i have some struts sitting here they are supose to be of a ke70 but dont actualy fit so i wouldnt no the disks are the same as the ke70s so could i just take the disks and calipers of them and put them in the starlet? and is there much point upgradeing the rear?

The reason your brakes are usless is more likley Shocks. Bad shocks = bad brakes. As for brake upgrades try semi race pads (Ive had luck with EBC Green pads) and the best brake fluid you can afford. There are heaps of semi race cars out there with this system and yes you can get race compounds for your drum brake rear. Good luck.

I dropped a 4K into my old KP61, the difference is incredible! Still had the 4spd box off the 2K, took skid after skid after skid.. and still came back for more. I had to swap the 2K dizzy into the 4K, only because the 4K-J I used was from a KP61 Sprint, with electronics.. but the end result will blow you away!

I used the standard brakes, found them to be more than adequate, (it really isn't much car to stop!), so throw some new pads on, give them a fluid change, perhaps get some new front shocks.
