Santa's Racecar Alarm

Postby Santa'sBoostinSleigh » Thu Jan 26, 2006 8:36 am

ok so i want my racecar to stay mine, it will have a fair amount of moohlah poured into it and i dont want some little fcuk to come think its theirs...

anyway, what would be a good alarm to install?

what i woudnt mind doing is if someone can give me a mean deal on the alarm unit, and then when im doing the conversion, wire the alarm in myself :)

suggestions/thoughts?

Hiding stuff in a stripped out racecar is the biggest problem, makes it very easy to find +12v and feed power to ECU, fuel pump, starter etc. Try cutting sensor, injector etc circuits and hide the alarm brain very well or the whole exercise will be pretty pointless.

make some sort of plug in harness adapter on the engine loom/ecu so that you can quickly remove it and the ecu will no longer be plugged in to anything. This will make life very difficult for someone wanting to take the car.

yeah the immobiliser side of things becomes difficult, but if i fit a freaken loud siren to the doors/glassbreak etc, at least that becomes a partial deterrant

Another thing that helps is having a fcuking loud internal siren... One inside the car, one under the hood. And a battery backup too so if one if cut the battery one turns on..

I got 3 sirens in mine. 2 external (one is battery) and 1 internal... When those things go off you know all about it...

I had 2 119dB and one 122dB piezo sirens in my Celica, the big one was in the aircon vent above the stereo and the two little ones were in the back, by the parcel tray, pointing forwards. Absolutely, brutally painful to be in there with them going off :D

You'll find that most alarm guys wont sell most decent alarms by themselves, as they are only covered by any sort of warranty if installed by an approved agent anyway.

Its kinda costy, but depending on what you want.. Meridian alarms (and several others) will pay your excess if your car gets broken into with one of their alarms in it. PM me if you want more details.. ill be gone for the weekend though.

Hitch up a couple of smoke alarms inside the car...
Use the test function.
Wire a door switch across the test switch... open door... deafened!!!
I haven't thought about how you would get into the car yourself without them sounding but it's the start of a cheap and loud alarm system, he, he, he.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

technology is your saviour Ken...

a simple little RFID to kill the power when you're within say 10ft.

Will tinker with this when I get home.

10ft RFID?! 8O

My answer...
Reid switch, latching relay with a reset button...

Cheap and nasty, but does a good job. Uniden alarms. Fit with extra sirens, immobilisers, and your away... Hook the alarm to the horns while you're at it...
Again. 12V SLA, little diode-relay system and you've got a 7AH battery back up for the whole alarm system... Now... How to hide it in a race car...
Answer? Small non-descript metal box?
