Best tyres for the job?

i bought a set of 4 b4 xmas. 205/40/17 , retail price was $265 each tho i dont know many people who pay retail for tyres anyway , i got mine a fair bit cheaper

the good stuff above all applies, great street tyre , sticky at low temps , great in the wet etc and awesome lateral grip thru corners.
i have twice heard of them being ripped to shreds and falling apart after 3 hard laps on a track so id say suitable for a street tyre only.

they lasted a 30minute hard drive through some twistys with no visible damage for me tho, so i wont complain

they also turn into very expensive smoke if one gets a little hasty

Not inflate the F1s to over 30psi? I have 38psi in the rears and 34psi in the fronts Confused 205/40R17 front and 235/40R17 rear.

My tyre guy reckoned much more than that and your creating a concave surface, of which you are only rolling on the very middle of the tyre....so uneven tyre wear... or premature wear or somesuch.

hmm but i dont sell tyres, so its probibly just what he sez to ever customer....

I used to have some Hankook 195/55/15 and 38psi suited them just fine....

infact I think 30psi is a bit low for those tyres, I always get good kms out of them on 36-40psi...

Jeezh, that must make for a rough ride? i run 32 in the front 235/45 and 30 in the rear 255/40.

i have proxy T1R's on the front, and hankooks ho4ts on the rear,
fronts around 34-36 psi, rears 40ish in summer,

the toyos have very good grip in the wet, even more than the T1S's that i had on there before. just waiting to see what sort of KMS they will last for.
at this stage im thinking deff no more than 20,000kms.

im either going to 215/225 in 16 all round, or if my plans work 17" 215s,
i think 215s wont cut it for the rear end grip however,

Im running 40psi but they are 215/35/18 so you dont have much tire to play with.

They were the control tire for the Production Racing series last year, and the Evo's and WRX's were literally ripping the tire tread to bits in only a couple of races, so I can suggest that if you're doing hard track time, then you should avoid these tires. The same warning would apply for many soft road tires though

Fudge ... ok, they're off my list then, as anything I own might have to put up with race track use. Wouldn't have thought they would die from the weight and power of an FXGT. I half killed a set of Yokohama commuter tires in no time flat myself on Manfeild, and it's very frustrating. Still, at least they only cost about $65 a corner

Probably too small a block size for track use, and they can't dissipate the heat quick enough. Might last longer if you shave them first (like you should with any new street tyre used on the track), but that cuts street mileage down drastically

Speaking of track tyres, what's the current selection of semi slicks like, do Yokohama still make the A032R?

Id be running atleast 32psi in them. Another good tire would have to be yokos A539.

dad has the F1's on the aristo, 265/18's all round, corners very nicely for an 1800kg car!! acceleration is also good, but being auto and traction control would help that a lot, lol. we had F1's on the back of the jza70 (225/50/16's) and i found that they did not grip as well in a straight line under heavy acceleration, but still cornered well (back wouldn't slide too badly). they do work very nicely on the front of the lucida van though keeps up with the supra and aristo through corners

snap, did exactly the same thing before xmas too, and couldnt agree more about the grip, well worth the money in my books
