I don't think so. I liase with State regularly, they wouldn't even insure me when I was 18 for a KP60 starlet with tridents. I had a full, clean licence too.

Do you mean that you dont think i can get fire and theft? Because they have already said yes :) all I need to do is install the alarm.....

AMI and state both refuse to insure me at all (even through my mother) because i have more than 20% modifications on my car (just mags atm).. I am looking at getting a body kit put on soon and getting my car lowered.. i dont know what im going to do about insurance.

Toyspeed should start an insurance company!

My insurance company didn't care about mags, bodykit, lowering, tints or stereo.. but went through a broker who deals with AMP and Vero instead of dealing with the insurance company directly..mind you I don't think it adds up to 20% value of the car

My car cost me 4500$ my mags and tyres cost me 1800$.. so my mags and tyres are 40% (??? correct me if im wrong.. im shocking at math) of my cars value.. so only way i could get any kind of insurance through state for my mags, is to only insure the mags with out the tyres...

We had a similar thing with State with our old primera. We did lots of little things and listed them all with the company because thts what your supossed to do i.e. put in a CD player because it didn't have one, replace factory speakers because they are dead. etc etc. Then we said we will be putting new wheels on, the reply was "in that case we won't insure you because it is over XX percent of the cars value.

So we asked if we could take off some of the things that weren't really mods... NO.

So we asked if our $8000 primera was parked in thier car park with $800 wheels and a stereo next to an HSV with $5000 wheels then they would insure the HSV and not us... Yes sir that is correct.... WHY... Because that is what it says here!!

So we went to Farmers Mutual (we only had contents as our other insurance at the time) and they said FINE we have no problems with that. We get our own broker who we always deal with and they are great.

One of the best things is they are used to dealing with "I just rolled my half million dollar supertractor over a cliff and it exploded" or "Hi we just had a enormous flood and it wiped out everything and when your finished talking with me my 16 neighbours want a word cos ther is only one phone working"
so when my friend who is also with them rings and says "Um .. I was looking at my burger king burger and when I looked up everyone had stoped but me!! I sort of caused a bit of a shunt train." He gets asked by the operator "so how many other cars were damaged" to which he replies "three".

The reply to this....

"Gees thats a good effort" and laughter on the end of the phone, they also let him upgrade to a different bumper for the difference in cost.

Anyway we rang state to tell them that we wanted to cancel our insurance and they said "fine" but don't you want to know why? "No"
Its because your policies suck and we will never insure with you again and tell everyone we meet to avoid you as well. "thats nice goodbye"

How do these people have any clients left??

Been there done that, nearly had a T-shirt printed...

Thats the policy, take it or leave it. (Or dont buy such a hard-to-insure car as a young person!!)

When I bought my first Celica I had to try 6 insurance companies before one would even say yes - and that was NAC - so you take your chances. I pranged that car, paid my 2 times $1200 excesses, and moved on....

I'm now 25 and have gone for an extended period without any claims, my premiums have dropped... you just need to bide your time ...

Talk to NAC, they have recently changed their way they work their excesses, so you don't have to pay for two.

My old ST185, me 16 on restricted and it being modded was $300ish a year 3rd party theft and fire :? We think the broker did it through my parents... My Detomaso was $1300 a year full (ouch!), on restricted, stereo, lowering, exhaust and insured for over $7k. Thats also with no history, so will go down next year with addition of no claims plus full licence :D

The new ST185 will be VERY interesting to insure.... :?

I picked a 93 GTZ with alloys, slightly lowered and tints for my last car, got it like 3ish weeks ago.

Rung AMI and told them it was supercharged (from the factory), said I was worried they were going to ping me if I ever had to claim (bonzai supercharger!!). They said no probs, superchargers arent as much of a concern to them as turbos are. A mate of mine reckoned it was a safe bet if I wanted to stay insured...sweet!
Im guessing since there are bugger all superchargered factory cars on the road in NZ, insurance companies arent too worried yet...

$52 a month full cover for $5K, glass buy out etc...with alarm... :D
(50% no claims tho  ) 500 bucks excess if within 100m of my house ( which it is...)

Tried to insure a VR4 about 6 months ago, AMI told me to 'not a chance'...

Im sticking with the S/C thanks....

It's not necessarily a high-performance vehicle, but a high-risk vehicle. Especially for theft, and when you start modifying a car.. it becomes even more of a target for theft. :(

What I have found is that where you are is as importanat as what you are and what you drive! Auckland sux for insurance, Im 25 half way thru this year and will be listing what I want out of a policy and doing the rounds again.

Standard ST185 = $320ish with NZI
Modded GT-Z = Not insurable with them even though I had the two Celicas with them for some 4-5 years. You would think that after that period with no claims you'd have built up some sort of loyalty but no... Im just another under 25 year old.

Insurers are pathetic but unfortunatley necessary.

Most insane quote goes to ANZ, the bank I have been loyal to for 20 years, $2500 p.a.!!!!!!!! 8O

Also only like $50-80 diff if its a turboed car as opposed to non-turbo (i.e. Celica GTR vs Celica GT4).

I also like how you pay the full year within the first six months leaving you $ to mod your car in the other six months
