You are right, lots of money to be lost if it goes pear shaped. If you are fairly confident in your mechanical skills, you could buy the rebuild DVD and attempt it yourself? Fairly easy if it is just a rebuild and no modifications are being made. Personally, if you do not have a mate who is close with an engine builder, I would just keep asking around - especially where people with similar set-ups went (as some builders are better at some things than others). Don't rush your decision.
