help with brakes and engine plz

Postby bluemaumau » Sun Feb 12, 2006 6:12 pm

ok im about to start the 4agte project.

the subject is a 1993 ae101 corolla wagon with a 4afe and front disks.

1. what is the best 4agze to put in? (in terms of performance and ease)
-my guess would be the ae101, but feel free to prove me wrong.

2. will i need engine mounts?

3. to obtain a cert for this conversion i will need a brake upgrade, will ae101 gtz or gt-apex 4 wheel disks be good enough?(a question for a certifier or sum1 whose done this conversion)

4. will ae101 gtz or gt-apex hubs(obviously with brakes)fit onto my wagon?

thank you 2 all that help with this project. :D

AE101 non SuperStrut will straight bolt on, otherwise no (AE101 GTZ brakes and 20v SuperStrut will not fit without modification).
AE101 GT APEX are same brakes as AE92 GTZ.
You don't need to change hubs, just swap rotors, calipers and brackets, if you are going to use 20v non-ss brakes or AE92 GTZ.
Best motor in my opinion would be a ECU/loom from MAP AE92 GTZ (later model) in combination with AE101 GTZ engine. That if you can find later AE92 GTZ loom.
Use engine mounts off GTZ.

You only need to change the drummies, well thats what Ive done. The front discs are only a couple mm thicker.

And they will bolt straight on.

The long as bolt that holds the two arms onto the hub is a pig to come off, but it does. I had to use a combination on pressing it out and heating it up with a gas torch. Make sure you get the handbrake cable and all the bits for that as its different

AE101 trueno brakes will bolt on (unless you have leaf springs, see below)
Rear brakes:
Does your car have coil springs at the rear? (some wagons have leaf springs).
- If it is coil spring...
Rear brakes - you will have to swap the hub, disk, caliper and handbrake cable across. The long bolts that connect the 2 track control arms to the hub can be difficult to undo/get out as they can get a tiny bit of rust where they go through the hub and they can stick real tight! Either:
1 - swap the whole rear subframe across (easiest in my opinion) or
2 - get crc and a hammer and a spanner. spray lots of crc, turn the bolt as you tap it gently out with the hammer.
Put a tiny bit of grease in the hub where the bolt goes through when you put it back together so that it will be easy the next time!
- If it is leaf spring at the rear... don't know what you will have to do... tell us when you do it!

Swap the brake bias valve across from the donor car so that it will give the correct pressure to the rear disk brakes.

Front brakes:
Swap the trueno hubs and brakes across if it is a 20v. Thicker disk, bigger wheel bearings.
Driveshafts have the same spline at the hub end on all AE101s

Have fun

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

He dosnt have a BZ-T though, he has a Levin (donor)

As for replacing the whole subframe its not as hard as you think. Theres just two big bolts on either side holding it to the chassis. I would remove the exhaust before doing this. But Im not sure if its the same as a Levin one. They are the same on my Liftback and Wagon but they are both Corolla`s

And as for the CV`s, inner or outer??, which gearbox are you gonna use??, and if you are gonna use the Levin hubs just get Levin CV`s
