Surprised! No WAIC on drag cars.

Was watching the imports Vs V8 drags on tv yesterday and was slightly surprised that there was not a single WAIC...
Now I know WAIC isn't very popular, but given their reputation I would've though there would be at least a couple of drag cars using WAIC.

Is there some hidden insane probem with WAIC for the drag racing community in NZ?

Ours uses one :D

150 deg at compressor outlet, 30 degrees at intercooler outlet, thats with tap water. Ice water gets it better still.

It got tried, but figured it was easier (and much cheaper) to just jam heaps of ice into the water tank before each run :lol:

After doing the run, and coming back up the return road (which down here means do a lap of ruapuna :P) there's a little bit of ice floating about in the tank. No radiator on this one since it only needs to work well for about 2 minutes.

Its an awesome unit - however its MASSIVE and a lot of cars might not be able to fit it, and its not cheap either (though still cheaper than an HKS air:air or something).

Pressure drop isn't enough to do the car any harm - the gains are far outweighing any downsides.

Ako. Which car is that? I watched most of the show, but didn't really recognise most of the cars...
You should look at www.are.com.au and have a chat to them. They might be able to shrink that unit down a bit...

in many classes in the US w/a is outlawed due to the big advantages it has over a/a in drag racing. Obviously that's not the case here, so perhaps most of the NZ racers just don't like power? :D :lol:

Looks very Water - Air to me!

That car is my bosses weekend toy / our best advertising, ran 9.5 @ 141 so far, hoping for bigger and better things in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Despite being used to great effect on drag cars, people still have the mistaken impression they are crap on road cars. They need a decent radiator to work to full potential, and being on TOP of an engine block won't help their cause. The cooler on the RX7 is a PWR cooler, same as the majority you see around the place.

I have a feeling that having an intercooler on top of the engine block could cause more problems than just inefficient cooling - like bad compression, big oil leaks etc :D :lol:

So THATS where I've been going wrong all this time - keep mistaking head gaskets and intercoolers!

I'm sure I read they're using something else in there.. dry ice maybe?? Could be wrong.

I was surprised at the lame ass coverage, hell, you could only see one car launch off the line.

then the whole pro tree issue.

then that $&#$% in the head commentator.

I didnt realise on the day but yeah that damn pro tree setup was fcuked. It was more than obvious that was a big disadvantage to the Imports and one other thing if the Imports had won you know they wouldn't have shown it on t.v.

It is an excuse, and a poor one. None of the drivers are using it either, just people arguing about it online who have never raced with both :lol:

Pro tree is no harder, you see the car before you use it, you just go "oh yup, that tree". Normally the clutch gets dropped on the last yellow, with a pro tree you just get one yellow. Easy peasy.
