re-registering a de-reged car

hey, what do i have to do to get a car re-register and all that stuff, how much is it going to cost me and is it worth it?

depends on what the cars worth, what the condition is etc

I re-registered my Celica few years ago, cost about $350 for the compliance inspection and WOF and $250 for re-registration and 6 months licencing.

Should be no major hassles unless the car has been crashed and repaired, in which case you may need an engineer's report, and if the car has been modified it might also need a cert.

also if its pre 95 you may find it doesnt comply with the frontal impact regulations, unless you are using it as a club car or its a classic

if it's previously been registered in new zealand then that isn't an issue

IF the car has been previously registered in NZ it can be done but not easily. My son did this with Skyline he bought (now 1JZGTE powered ). Car had to have seats and carpet out, hoodlining removed,disc calipers removed, new brake pads, brakehoses checked and replaced. While stripped out car had to be up on hoist so testing station inspector could check it out. This all had to be done in workshop, would not let us do any of this ourselves . When it was checked it had to be reasembled and taken to Testing Station for warrant

That's a lot more hassle than mine was. I just dropped the car off fully assembled one afternoon and picked it up the following day with a WOF and the papers I needed to get it registered. Only thing I had to do beforehand was to get a wheel alignment done with a certified read out.

was that due to lapsed rego? or had it actually been de registered?

it was de-registered due to the rego lapsing.

Yeah. Try re registering one that has been labeled as "accident damaged"

yeah that's why I said in my first post that if it's been crash damaged you might need an engineer's report

Also a very important thing is de-registered vehicles when you drop the vehicle off you get a form for the police to sign off as being "of interest/ of no interest to police". Go in they look up the chassis/ vin number on the system and sign if it's all good. Did this with my ee80 corolla a while ago and didn't need the trim removed. This may be the case if the vehicle is taken in with no plates on it??? Mine was nz new and previously reg in nz.
