looks like a new MR-S or something.

supra should stay hard/targa top.

Styling features a long front deck and short rear

Just like every other supra...................

he said it'll be introduced a year after the new IS and it'll ride on a shortened version of the IS's chasis

i assume the new IS must be a monster, if they have to shorten it.

or maybe its these asshat frontal impact laws.

Saw one on TV, the supra concept car. Apparantly its engine is being designed to rival porches etc in high end sports car sort of areas. Personally, good and bad, the price will skyrocket, and it loses that really long, smooth look which is what i love about the newish supras.

why would they downgrade the engine and performance???

seriously, a 2jz-gte is easily a match if not superior to a majority of the porsche offerings...

so unless they are planning on competeing with the GT3 porsche (i think thats the one... the really expensive one with the really good engine)
which means theyll be upping the ante a wee bit

pfft my caldina is waay quicker than many of the current lineup of porsche,

You're comparing a twin turboed engine to a N/A with the GT3, and the GT3 will spank the supra every way possible. Even the lowest spec 911's have more N/A horsepower than the 2JZ.

Comparing apples with apples in 1993 (when the 2jz came out, yeah?) the 911 turbo had 360 horsepower and 383 lb-ft torque. The last year of the 2JZ the 911TT 415HP had and the top model, the GT2 had 462 and was the fastest production car to lap the Nurburgring.
In 1979 the Porsche 911 turbo had a 0-60 of 4.9 seconds around 15 years later the supra was still 1 second slower.

I was merely stating what ive heard. And i dont know alot about porches but i believe it was being designed to compete with porches up and coming release.

2jz-gte was actually first released in the Aristo in 1991. The export model Supra was listed as 243 KW and road and track got a 4.9 second 0-60 mph out of it (interestingly, best motoring pitted the Aristo (auto) against an M5 (manual) and an auto Merc 500E....The Aristo was faster.

The Supra, price wise, was a competitor with the standard 911....and blitzed it

Good luck getting 900-1000hp from any stock porche block. I'd imagine the new v6 supra engine will be a step backwards in terms of strength and 'moddability' also.

Good luck getting a stock supra near a 911 on a race track. Porsches are sports cars not drag cars. Personally I think it's a shame if they go with a V6, supras have always been straight 6's, it's their thing.

"The Supra, price wise, was a competitor with the standard 911....and blitzed it"

With 243KW I should hope so, a standard 964C2 has about 250HP IIRC. I test drove one a few months back, they're awesome cars and you can be at insane speeds really quickly without it even feeling like it's accelerating hard and it just sticks to the corner like it's on rails.

You've also got to remember it depends on your sources, I've seen vids of 911's vs GTR's vs NSX's and the 911 comes out on top and I've seen GTR's vs Supras and NSX's where the supra wins.

Price wise Japanese cars are almost always better but IMO they don't get anywhere near sporty euros especially Porsches in terms of driving feel and style.
