Resetting the ECU?

Postby ollieboy » Thu Mar 02, 2006 4:10 pm

I just got my injectors cleaned and was reading on a website that if you get them cleaned you should reset the ECU so that the engine starts from new.

Is this necessary and if it is how do I do it?

Its on a Trueno 5AFE if you need to know.

Take the positive terminal off the battery and put it back on.

If you'd just bothered to enter the title of this thread into the search page you'd have all the answers you require

However as you seem too lazy to do so try this viewtopic.php?t=35265

Oh cool, I just wasn't sure whether you had to take it off for ages or just a little bit and whether it was necessary.

cheers

yeah, I looked at that but it doesn't really answer my question. Is it neccesary(sp?) to do or is the website wrong?

Resetting the ECU on a Toyota doesnt do jack shit as they do not have a memory. And yes you could disconnect the battery...

OR instead of going to all that hassle you can just pull the ECU fuse out and put it back in :P

but you are wrong, they have ignition and limited (~20% from base) short/long term fuel trim memory/learning ability (depends which generation they are, earlier ones before 20v era are very basic units, it is easy to check in the test connector if they have T1 and T2 - later model or just T connector - earlier one, also VF output in earlier one had only 3 values vs 5 values in later one). One day I might pull out the ROM out of my ecu and see what is in there exactly.
