How much power can the standard auto box handle ? I dont like manual gearboxes.

lol...so just plan of slapp'n it in and be ready for 9s do ya?
I would like to see you try...Auto boxes are good for around 265-270rwkw safely. Go beyond that at your own risk.
how you get 250-300rwkw to the ground effectively would be more of a concern , would it not?jeda teach wrote:Silent Knight wrote:jeda teach wrote:Who has NZ's fastest street legal toyota ute ? Im thinking of puting a 3 liter supra motor in one and running 9"s

Someone else told me that the boxes are only good for a about 300rwkw max, i dont really wanna spend too much $$ on a transmission, tryning to do things on a budget.
I dont want open the motor up either, just do the usual bolt on mods.
I would love to do a 9 or an 8 sec ET but i think the transmission will be what holds me back.
Any other ideas ? What other auto boxes could i use and where can i buy adapter plates or bellhousings to suit ?

you can only have one.
Sorry lol i forgot to mention, i will put 15X12" rims on the back, with sum real wide drag tyres. like 15 to 18"s wide. I will do this all myself so it wont cost much.

Youre going to put your 18" wide tyres on your 12" wide rims, then put them on your ute, you are very clever. I bet you can even put your pants on by yourself too.
But for actual advice, I would be talking to the likes of Nyle Buckley, as he
a) Knows hows to run 9's
b) Knows how to make 2JZ's run nines
c) Knows hilux utes
d) Built his drag car on a tiny budget compared to most other pro import racers in NZ.

So you want to do achieve 9 or 8s ETs on a budget?
Without spending money on a tranny able to support the power and not wanting to open the motor up at all?
You live in a dream world you need to wake up from.
Jazza wrote:I think youd be lucky to even run 9's or 8's with just bolt on mods anyway wouldnt you?
jeda teach wrote:Over 1000hp is acheiveable without opening the motor up. I dnt want to spend money on a tranny, but i think i may have too.
you guys do know this is the new import x project he's researching...
All_Fours wrote:AFAIK 1000hp hasn't ever been done without opening the motor, just on a stock bottom end. You will most likely need to upgrade cams at the very least to make the head flow enough air for 1000hp, and unless the stock headgasket is steel you'll probably have to change that also.
But those expenses are nothing compared to ECU, injectors, tuning etc which is also likely to be pretty expensive. It's not a case of it can't be done, but you're really going to have to know what you're doing in order to run 9's without blowing the engine up a few times - and the 2JZ isn't a cheap engine to blow up.
