If you want to do 9's cheaply, get a 350 chev motor, get a big nitrous kit, and stick it in a T bucket. Even that will still set you back the better part of $40k

car is basically finishe, but you will have to wait till october to see the build up on importx

The fact you claimed to build the Import X AE85 a while back might have given him the idea.

I would give this thread at least 8 / 10 for potential disaster and/or comedy.

u have to admit the idea sounds a little proposterous. yeh sure its do able, and yes its do able on a budget. but i mean, if u havent the faintest idea to start with, this is certainly not the place to find out. most of us have decent cars, with very few actually on this forum running in or under the 12s ET bracket. if you were actually serious u would be getting hold of nyle buckley or the croydon lads with the supra who hav had a had enough time getting that rocket ship off the line without breaking another diff and on top of that, these guys have been toying with these cars for the last 2-4 years trying to get reliable power out of them, and down to the ground. i guess you were hoping on using the hilux diff as well? they are strong, but i dont think that strong. u would b looking at an easy 40-50k to get this thing on the strip.. then you have maintenance on top of that u mite have a car suitable after that, then u have to look at storage etc, transport to and from events, accomodation. fuel? nos refils? its not a cheap sport. is import x gunna sponsor u?

This thread is too stupid to even post in, and anyone that posts in it has just become stupider for it.

I seem to remember that Nyle may have been running a C4 transmission - not that I have any idea what one of those is. The big question is - what sort of engineering experience and workshop do you have access to? I guess if you have a big enough workshop and knew what you were doing you would build a tubbed rear end with 4 link rear, big diff etc, get plenty of rubber on the ground. If you look at RIPS were (still are maybe, haven't heard of it recently tho) building they had a Datsun? ute they had a big rear end in that he was going to put one of his ledgendary RB30 budget race engines in. That wouldn't have cost him much to build, but don't forget he has a workshop and most likely decades of engineering experience.

But stock transmissions and 1000hp 2JZs with bolt ons? I think you might need a little more 'experience' first.

so lets break this down into some chunks that may help you understand

a) you need power. truckloads of it, T51R off the side of the 2j should boost it enough. plus cams/fuel/headwork/ecu. add dyno time. NOT CHEAP.

b) you need to get the power down. tubbed rear, ladder type chassi, with wheelie bars. you would have very little weight at the rear to help traction. big slicks + a diff to match. dont forget some form of cage. NOT CHEAP.

c) you need to stop, stock farm hack ute brakes wont cut it here. im guessing anything factory on any car wont cut it. this makes it also NOT CHEAP.

i dont really wanna spend too much $$ on a transmission, tryning to do things on a budget.

ummmm, good luck, 9's on a budget is not that easy, especially when you don't want to open the engine up.
