The mechanic has said that if I want anything special, to mention it... I'm compiling a list at the moment...

any idea if the ECU will be able to handle a compression drop from 11.5 to 8.8? until I have money to add some boost(and after market ECU)?(yes I know it will drop performance)

I wouldnt bother dropping compression until you have the turbo/supercharger kit sitting in your hands. An NA motor with cams designed for 11.5:1 running at 8.8:1 will run like an utter sack of shyte, and you'll get people in KE30's pulling the fingers as they go past you...
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

It would be interesting to see how the Metal Matrix Composite bores held up against the lack of oil. Could you ask your mechanic?

so what got shaved in the engine to block up the oil pump? or was it just a case of the oil pump shitting itself.

Its kinda short notice though from the check oil light to the check engine/ engine stop. I would of thought toyota would of made the engine on the safer side.

Sorry to hear dude.

What sort of cams you looking ordering? Getting a linkplus ecu now too?
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983

really, hadn't heard anything about them prior to mine...

from what I understand, they are normally fairly good unless you miss a gear change right on redline, as it "predicts" the gear change, changes cam timing, and then gets it all messed up... atleast thats how I understand it from reading it on forums(always truthful forums though  )

no idea what got shaved, they're still pulling it apart(they already had a fully booked week, so the guys doing it by himself after hours). Revhead said that the SA assembled ones had problems with oil pumps, but mine is a jap assembled one.

very short notice on the oil light to check engine, which makes me think that it wasn't caused by the oil pump, probably just that it happened at the same time.

wasn't looking at cams, ECU(power FC, link wont control the L in vvtL-i) is/was already on layby... another month or so and I should have it... might not have a car though... that would suck royally

I was talking about the bores... You know, the thing that holds the uppy downy thingys in it (aka pistons)

sorry, I was talking in relation to the engines as a whole...

apparently the bores are fairly tight as well as being made of "soft"(reletive to the usual) material... you can buy iron sleeves for them in the US, basically just bore out 1mm, slide the sleeves it, and it makes the engine stronger(from what I've read)... also makes them more likely to accept boost.

You sure you don't have a diesel? :)
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

hmmm, a diesel... might explain why it doesn't go anymore... it only lasted 6 months of my driving with petrol in it.

FYI

Taking from "Development of the High Speed 2ZZ-GE Engine"

"The MMC all-aluminum cylinder block with a minimum bore to bore wall thickness of 5.5mm made this compactness and low weight possible. The aluminum alloy cylinder bore has been reinforced with ceramic fibers and particles, a combination which we found most favorable amongst thermal spraying, plating, and a castwrapped aluminum liner. The details of the MMC cylinder block will be introduced in a separate paper."

If you want I can upload the entire document for you, I got it off fivebob who posted links up. A very interesting read :D

I have it, I was just saying "from what I've read"... most of the people adding boost to them, seem to be adding iron or Molybdenum(edit:corrected) sleeves to them to give it better rigidity, I realise that that doc says iron is worse, but that seems to be what they are doing to add more boost.

well, semi good news.

the oil pump sh|t itself and an electrical fault in the oil pressure sensor caused the oil light in my car to not come on...

the good bit is that there is a runX front cut with only 12000kms on it coming from Japan to replace mine(75000km), and they're replacing the oil pump in the "new" engine with a new one from Toyota, as the originals are not "known to have a fault", but all the parts guys that my mechanic spoke to, "sugested" that there "may" be a fault where they disintergrate(see pics below)...

2-3 weeks and my baby will be back.

my oil pump

stupid question but,

does your car have traction control,
or do you rev it to the limiter occasionally?

DO NOT ANSWER THAT ON A PUBLIC FORUM.

PM the man the info, don't need anyone reporting back to your mechanical insurance people.
