silvertop computer help

Postby shihad » Thu Mar 23, 2006 3:51 pm

I have an AE92 trueno with a manual silvertop in it.I found out recently from the guy who put the engine in that its running an auto computer.Would this be the cause of lack of power that my car puts out? Is it worth putting a manual computer in? Any help would be great

There is no difference in power from manual to auto ECU! even redline is the same.

well what I had heard was that the auto ECUs have a more conservative fuel map so that it is not be as stressful on the gearbox... but then again I dont know if there is any truth there.

actually, I heard if you put a trd sticker on them they gain 20kw...or wait, did I hear thet was hearsay...

shihad, have you dyno'd your car, or are you just assuming it is down on power?- could be worth checking things like timing etc etc

yeah, straight after the conversion, i noticed the rear wheels would break traction, and i could drift corners.
i installed a boost gauge and im running 10pounds.

surely theres a diff in power outputs between manual and auto,

why else would car companys quote stuff like this when selling:

2001 sti wrx manual -220hp
2001 sti wrx auto -210hp

(not actual figures)

i see that all the time

and surely its because of the ecu, its not like the compression or pistons are different :?

Does not actually applies to silvertops etc. (as being relative low power/ low torque engine in first place).

i have had the timing checked its definately losing power somewhere.the temperature gauge never worked properly since the conversion so my mate has a theory that the ecu temp sensor is screwed or something.

The temperature guage is separate from water tempereature sensor.
What gas are you running? On 20v 91 is nono, and 95 is marginal.
How is your fuel economy?
What colour are the sparkplug tips?
What timing advance is it running?
What sort of power loss are we talking about?

i wouldve thought drivetrain loss, but those figures are at the fly... who knows.

i know the old vr4 autos had smaller turbos or something, so mayber there is something to this...
