Comment - your description of what happens when you plug the "chipped" ecu in sounds like the fuel pump is only working when you turn the key to start the motor.
Try jumping the fuel pump connector in the diagnostic plug (not sure if the rwd 4age loom has one?) so the pump runs when the ignition is on then try starting it???

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

nah the fuel pump is running all the time. its wired up completely separately to the ECU, so the ecu wouldn't effect when the fuel pump is running and when it is not.
