the oil pump sh|t itself and an electrical fault in the oil pressure sensor caused the oil light in my car to not come on...

the good bit is that there is a runX front cut with only 12000kms on it coming from Japan to replace mine(75000km), and they're replacing the oil pump in the "new" engine with a new one from Toyota, as the originals are not "known to have a fault", but all the parts guys that my mechanic spoke to, "sugested" that there "may" be a fault where they disintergrate(see pics below)...

2-3 weeks and my baby will be back.

my oil pump

4ages do the same think if you hold them on the limiter to long
its a engine harmoics issue and as 10k20v says is a increasingly comon issue

there are plenty of 2zz powered cars at wreckers
just no engines :D

and at 6 grand for the motor box/loo,/ecu combo it snot likely people are buying them up for comversions :D

forget about turboing it
youll need a m400 minimum to run it properly

DO NOT ANSWER THAT ON A PUBLIC FORUM.

PM the man the info, don't need anyone reporting back to your mechanical insurance people

surely reving to limiter is still within manu operating conditions for the vehicle.

yeah especially as the powerband is so narrow in these.
it takes practice to use it with out hitting the limiter and/or dropping below 6000rpm.

6000(ish) is where the cams change lobes.
first time i drove one i hit the limiter a few times

I like to think of the limiter as an indicator to shift gears 8)

and the block is a rough indication of where the rods should be,

Just asking as there are a few other engine's that have oil pumps that fail when subjected to the harshness of rev limiters etc etc .

Have you tried telling a mechanical insurance company that? It is always far safe to avoid any potential disputes, even if you are rght.

It seems that they found the cause of the oil pump failure...

and this URL seems to describe it.
http://newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=06cf6f247004941cb5c05164fcd84539&threadid=110791&highlight=underdrive+pulleys

apparently when fitting very underdrive pulleys on these engines it shakes the sh|t out of the engine... yay...

so, insurance is only covering it as I haven't changed it, no idea how they prove that(I didn't but how'd they know that?).

Did you have an underdrive pulley fitted on your engine?

it's certainly not the original one, and it is smaller, so it was assumed that it is not a factory one, they only figured it out when the replacement came along and it was quite a big difference.
