Making a loom

Postby Zyros » Sun Apr 16, 2006 5:31 pm

Yeah well, just being re-doing the loom to my distributor --> from the ECU..

Any suggestions on what wires to use, how to insulate it.. just some heat shrink? What connector to crimpt onto the 4 wires to connect to distirbutor wires..

And tips for doing this specific part of the loom, thanks.. or if someone is cutting up a loom.. im after the dizzy part to and from the ECU pin.. :P

Would noarmal wires going from the ecu pin to the dizzy unprotected etc.. possibly be the cause of a misfire?

flexible cored thin coax should do the job (overkill?), it is cheap as nuts, the only problem is to tell apart wich wire is wich (wich can be marked by different coloured usnulation tape etc). Or you could just use shielded audio cable, which is cheap as well...

I never knew they had shielded audio cable, unless you mean the stuff like 4gauge wires have with that thick as rubbery insulation?

Whats flexiible cored thin coax anyway :P

Isulated and Shielded are 2 different things.
Shield looks like braid on braided hoses, with isulation on top, it shields the electromagneting waves from outside (or sometimes from inside), every conductor carrying current will create electromagneting interference, which will induce currents in wires close by, sensetive input wires need to be shielded, as the currents in sparkplug wires (for example) will induce signal in the distrubutor wire creating various feedbacks and interferences (try placing mic next to speaker), thus making engine run very rough or not run at all (actually it is much more complicated).

You can go to pickapart and chop a loom for real cheap (or get a complete thing if you are lucky)...
