Flooding FTW (MORE PICS!!)

Chur.

Anyone else trapped in their homes today? We have a great big lake all over the front path & lawn so can't get out that way, the driveway is under about 1cm-3cm or so of water (haven't gone out to measure it mind) and we have a huge lake out the back too. :D
All the gumboots are soaking wet as well, so i can't go splash in the puddles.

Even so, i'm hopefully going to venture out today and take piccys of floods/high rivers. 8)

THIS IS AWESOME!

way on the camry was stalling / missing, stuipd automatic didnt help, i had to keep dropping it into neutral when slowing down and back into low... then aircon had to be used to clear the winshield, ah, fuking fun drive home indeed!

heh, the rav4 just keeps on trucking... the longer we have it, the more impressed I am with it and it's abilites to get over/through stuff.

yeah it's girly, but it still got through where a couple of "manly" WRX and EVOs wouldn't dare

I tried driving along SH87 to Outram but there's just far too much water running across the road, and the Silverstream is about to burst the banks (evacuating heaps of houses in Mosgiel). This is awesome man. :D

Carlisle road is down the end there, picture taken from Bremar ST in Mosgiel, whole thing is closed off (and on this side of town there were Police EVERYWHERE!)

Don't know where in the town this is

The Silverstream, facing towards the town. if i had stayed here a little while longer i would have been on One News. :(

Close to the houses. 8O

Burst down there by the looks of it

Again (didn't go though that as it looked too deep and we may not have gotten back if we had been away a long time)

Once again

Near the Mosgiel Library - couldn't go down this road as the water would have probably started coming in the bottom of the car

I'm going out to hopefully take more pics soon, from the Saddle Hill lookout if i can get up there. Apparently there are big waves at the St. Clair esplainade too, so might try get into Duendin. 8)

For sakes, sake, the Silverstream is usually just that - a stream. It is at least 3-4 or more metres deep in those pics. 8O

I bet that there will be people on the news complaining about their houses being flooded... why they bought a place next to a stream that is on a river bed is the question that they should be asking themselves...

and... errr...

I'd be wanting to move my car about now if I owned those cars near the bridge.

Yeah I saw the leith today, oh my f**ken word. Insane.
The small road thats runs down by the stream behind castle street had a huge chunk gone out of it and a few meters of guardrail/fence.

Had to drive all the way around to the motorway as the road by the green island club was completly flooded this morning.

Highway 1 between cavasham(sp?) and andy bay was flooded this morning also.

What fun. No suprises It made me late.

go for the boogie-boards and surf the Leith.
where did the SH1 get closed due to a landslide/washout??
was in a mad panic to finish a ute deck, when the customer called to say the road was closed.

Silverstream, near Invermay. Unfortunately got here way too late. :(

Image
Because that (green lines) is where the water was up to.

Image
Again

Image
Bridge to Outram Glen (its not that unusual to see it underwater though, as it happens in all the floods)

Image
Taieri river

Image
That whiteish line thingy is where the ground drops down a few metres to where the river normally is...

Image
Well and truely over the floodbank

Image
Just about 110, whatever 110 is (can't be 110 metres so maybe it is nine point nine metres deep?

Image
Paddocks on the Taieri Plains

Image
Filled in ditch on Dukes Road near Fisher & Paykel etc

Image
Same road, but beside the A&P Showgrounds

We did make it into Dunedin but my camera batteries went flat, even though i thought i did get a couple of pictures in. :(

St. Clair beach had the biggest waves i'd ever seen, they were huge, and continuously crashing against the Esplainade (even when in a car you could feel them hitting the wall) and the splashes from them were completely SOAKING houses across the street not to mention the cars on the road. There was seaweed etc everywhere on the roads and later on we noticed a few whitebait on top of the car.

That was truely an awesome sight though, wish i could have stayed there longer.

The Leith was way down when we got there too unfortunately. :(

Went out and saw the Taieri plains. I was absolutly gob smacked. Never seen anything like it, the Taieri river looked like a giant lake.
