depends what compression you want.
So measure the cc of the head chamber, measure the cc of the piston at tdc if there is anything there to measure or it could be sitting flat, and take into account how many cc's the head gasket will take up, eg measure the head gasket diameter and times that by how thick ur head gasket is, standard is 1.2mm, you can get either a 0.8 or 0.5mm metal one from TRD.
then search the net for a engine compression calculator and you put those figures into it.

maybe they sold it to you as a 0.5 when it was a 0.8?

I use a standard genuine item in mine.

The suggestion by Bazda is the right one... figure out what thickness you need to get the compression you want then find a reputable supplier that makes them in that thickness... (Like Toyota Genuine or TRD ;) )

Or just get the TRD one and machine the head/pistons to get the compression you want.
