Levin BZR - Any issues i should know about?

Postby adamkerrnz » Tue May 02, 2006 10:34 am

Hello,

Im thinking of "moving up" to a 1997 Levin BZR. its got 120,000k's on the clock and for those that dont know, a blacktop 4AGE and 6 speed gearbox

now, are there any ongoing problems that i could possibly have with this car?

any input is appreciated

Oil consumption (standard feature)
Super Strut worn out
Crunchy synchro's

That's about all I can think of.

I second that i have no oil worries with mine, I also get hesitating when its cold, but it doesnt seem to go away when its warm (its the one thing that i want to fix on my car that i havnt yet been able to find the cause of)

Oh and the synchros and reverse seem to be a normal problem in most toyota gearboxes, all 3 of mine have had issues (2 x 20v's and a *coughcoronacough*)

yes oil usages is common, but not a real issue

to fix that hesitation check:
leads, cap, plugs
run it on 98 or retard the timing to 8deg for 95 NEVER run 91.
fit oil catch can, one with NO drain or return

Yea, I 3rd the hestiataion when its cold, but mine comes right after about 2minutes of driving.

The syncros sucks in the 6speed, my 4th gear is on the way out.

Superstrut, mine has 121kms on it and one of the superstrut joints is on the way out

Other than that it has been the most reliable car Ive ever owend, Ive done 20,000kms in mine and they only thing that has died is the thermostat which was a whole $20 from toyota for a new one, oh and I had to get the cat cut out cause it got a bit stinky
